[00:00:00] Speaker A: This is the Morning Journey Rewind with Mark and Brittany. Never miss a moment. [00:00:04] Speaker B: This week on the Morning Journey Rewind. Mark and Brittany wrap up the Olympics. You send in baby name suggestions for Brittany's baby. We give away Mercy Me merch and tickets to see Danny Goki. And we follow Crowder as he gets a car from a vending machine. [00:00:18] Speaker C: We've been talking, obviously, about the U.S. olympic hockey team today, but one of the sports that appeared over the weekend, I did not watch it. This is called ski mountaineering. [00:00:29] Speaker B: Look, I saw this and I was watching it live and I said, what is this form of torture talking about no survivors. I don't know how people survive this. So you, like, cross country ski uphill. Like, there's a diamond course and you ski out and around the diamonds uphill. Then you get to the bottom of this giant snow covered staircase, you unclip your skis, you put them on your back, like in your book bag, and then you sprint up a set of stairs. Why? Why would anyone want to do this? [00:00:56] Speaker C: This is basically cardio workout in the snow. [00:00:59] Speaker B: It looked like the most torturous thing I have ever seen. And I watched a lot of the cross country races where they go uphill, but then they get that nice downhill break and they go up the next climb or whatever. But this is like, climb uphill for forever and then unclip your skis and run upstairs. [00:01:17] Speaker C: Well, and then the slope that they go down, that is not a. That's not like a gradual slope. [00:01:23] Speaker B: Right. [00:01:24] Speaker C: They're doing a slalom and they're moving through there. [00:01:26] Speaker B: And you gotta make sure you get your skis back on. Right. And like that. The snow hasn't accumulated on your boots after climbing up all those stairs. I was sweating just watching it. I said, if there's one Olympic sport I would never want to do, it would be that one. [00:01:38] Speaker C: So apparently it's the newest Olympic sport. But the actual ski mountaineering goes back to, like, the 1800s. People in certain parts of the world, they had to do that because that's how they got around. They would use that. That's how they hunted for food. [00:01:53] Speaker B: Okay, See, we don't live in that time anymore. We don't have to do that anymore. Like, who invented this form of torture? [00:02:01] Speaker C: Well, congratulations again to the US Olympic hockey team. Yesterday, the men's team defeated Canada and won gold. [00:02:09] Speaker B: Yes. And the women's team did it on Thursday. So everybody's always like, Canada's better at hockey, but not in the Olympics. Not this year anyway. But I just Got to give a big shout out to their goalie. Hello, Book. I mean, goodness gracious. After we scored that first goal, Canada looked like they were in control. And then they tied us. And then I was just happy we made it to overtime because I really thought we weren't even going to make it there. He stopped 41 out of 42 shots on goal. That is crazy. [00:02:38] Speaker C: The second period, there was so much activity in front of our goal, and I thought, they're gonna break this wide [00:02:46] Speaker B: open so many times. [00:02:47] Speaker C: And they just kept. He held them off and then we made it to overtime and then they got that goal. And that was phenomenal. I said this earlier. I don't think I've ever been more joyous and more stressed the entire third period. I stood up the entire third period and watched it sit in front of my television and I'm watching it. [00:03:09] Speaker B: It was so stressful. And as someone who doesn't normally watch h. And I watched the women on Thursday and then I watched the men. Like, it is so fast paced, like every. Like. And I told my husband, I was like, I'd be so bad at this because there's no way I could see. There's so many people in front of the goal. I don't know how they ever score a goal ever. [00:03:26] Speaker C: Yeah, because you've never been to like, to a. To a hockey match. [00:03:29] Speaker B: No. So I grew up in the Chesapeake area, so we had the Norfolk Admirals, and that's what I would go see. So I've been to, like, minor league hockey, but I've never actually been to a major league hockey game. But now after watching it in the Olympics, I'm like, I would like to go. That looks like a lot of fun. [00:03:42] Speaker C: It is. Yeah, they're fun. I think hockey is more fun. It's fun to watch on tv, but it's more fun to watch, I think, in person. [00:03:49] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:03:49] Speaker C: I've been to NHL Sports are down in Raleigh to see the Hurricanes, and we had a great time. But when you're there, you see how quick they are on the ice. [00:03:59] Speaker B: It's one of those things, too. Like, Canada, USA has always been a rivalry, especially in the Olympics. So watching the girls and the guys win in overtime, just some epic moments in the Olympics, for sure. [00:04:10] Speaker C: Brittany has talked quite a bit about her love of the Olympics. She enjoys watching them. She did last week, the last couple of weeks. And the. That's not shared, though, by your husband. [00:04:23] Speaker B: No. Look, I promise they are over and this will be the last time I bring it up. But I found something interesting the other day. I was looking at our Facebook, and we kept getting these notifications that people were, like, laughing at something, and I was like, what is this? So I clicked on it, and unbeknownst to me, my husband had has been keeping track of things he's heard me say to myself while I've been watching the Olympics. So here are a few of them. It's because the ice is soft. Nice. It's five, four in the eighth end. If you know anything that's about curling. The snow is much better today. Oh, yes, we've got the hammer. [00:04:58] Speaker C: These are things you say to yourself. [00:05:00] Speaker B: These are things I've said out loud to myself. Hard to go big if your speed is slow. That was a big end for us. You don't get a medal for fourth. We didn't. We won gold in mixed aerials. And we need to be home because Jordan stoles skates at 10:50. We were literally at Home Depot right before Jordan stoles his race. And I was watching it while we were talking to my friend's parents that we ran into. It was so bad. So those are a few things. A lot of those were about curling. But I stand by everything I said. It's all true. You don't get a medal for fourth. [00:05:33] Speaker C: It would be fun to get other takes, like if people recording their husband, their wife, whatever, while they're watching, like, a football game or a basketball game. [00:05:42] Speaker B: Yeah, see, you say these things. You don't even know anybody who's listening. My friend's mom was like, at least you can't say he doesn't listen to you. And I'm like, only when I'm not talking to him. Apparently. [00:05:52] Speaker C: We're just gonna worship, we're gonna be [00:05:55] Speaker B: encouraged, and we're just gonna be together. [00:05:58] Speaker A: That's the idea. You're on the morning journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:06:02] Speaker C: Well, we have been getting your suggestions for names for Brittany's baby. She's expecting a baby boy, I guess. Really? Stella, her daughter, was the first to suggest a name. I would say it's not even really a suggestion. She is determined what his name will be. [00:06:18] Speaker B: She is adamant that this baby will be called Cornelius. We have tried to, like, float other names to her, and she's like, absolutely not. And so Trish brought in her son Alex to play the trumpet for us. And she wrote in, she said, I heard Stella really wants the baby brother to be called Cornelius because of Rudolph. Well, Al, Alex's name was also heavily influenced by his older brothers, so they were Obsessed with Alex at the time. And so Alex, her son, actually has a friend named Cornelia. Her dad's name is Cornelius. [00:06:48] Speaker C: Ah. How about that? [00:06:49] Speaker B: That's crazy. I had no idea. And she also said in Acts 10, Cornelius is a centurion that became the first fruits of the gentile world to Christ. [00:06:59] Speaker C: Wow. [00:06:59] Speaker B: So look at that. It's a biblical name. I did not know that Acts 10, there's a Cornelius. [00:07:04] Speaker C: So you're starting to like Cornelius. Think it. It may become a reality. [00:07:08] Speaker B: It. I mean, never say never. That's what we're like when we refer to the baby at home. Like, we're just tossing that around. I made like, a list of baby shower items and I literally wrote Corny's baby shower at the top. [00:07:20] Speaker C: I mean, if you. If you name him something else, his nickname is going to be Corny. [00:07:24] Speaker B: I know it's going to be really bad. I feel really bad for him. But, like, Stella is so determined. And now we've just gotten used to calling him that, that. That it might just actually stick. And apparently, you know, Cornelia for a girl isn't so bad. And that's what Alex's friends name. Her dad is actually named Cornelia. So somewhere it is named that and it is biblical. So we'll see. [00:07:46] Speaker A: Good company makes for a great day. The Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:07:51] Speaker C: Well, the movie, I can only imagine. 2 the Story of Mercy Me opened in theaters on Friday. And last week we were giving you an opportunity to win a related book and T shirt. [00:08:02] Speaker B: Yeah, we would love to hear how you like the movie as well. If you want to call and tell us, that would be great. Our Mercy Me book and T shirt winners are Tiffany, Betty, Erin and Carolyn Woo. Thank you so much for filling out that form. You have won the book and the T shirt. We will contact you about how to get that. But yeah, the movie was great. We got to see it as a staff, and so if you haven't seen it yet, highly encourage you to do so. [00:08:25] Speaker A: Uplifting and encouraging because you need it now more than ever. [00:08:29] Speaker C: You betcha. [00:08:30] Speaker A: The Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:08:32] Speaker B: If you want to win tickets right now to the Hope get giveaway, it's the Hope Nights concert featuring Danny Goke, John Riddick, and we are Messengers. That is on our website right now. All you have to do is get signed up and you just might win tickets. They're going to be at Highland Heights Baptist Church in Rustburg coming up on March 5th. So you got a little bit of time, but make sure you get it done. If you want to go see them [00:08:51] Speaker A: in concert hosts that make you feel like family, you're on the Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:08:57] Speaker C: If you've ever bought a car from Carvana, you know that you can just buy it online and they will deliver it to your home. Or you can go to one of the Carvana sites. They have these big seven story towers and it's like basically buying your car at a vending machine. [00:09:12] Speaker B: I saw this video the other day. Crowder was actually like, come with me. I'm buying a car from a vending machine. And that was my first thought. Oh, he's going to Carvana to get himself a car. And I was like, that's cool. I'll watch this. Because I've never seen anyone actually like, go do it or what the process is like or anything like that. But as the video progresses, he finally gets to it and he's like, all right. And he flips the video around and he's had a literal vending machine. And inside of it are cars, Hot Wheels cars. [00:09:38] Speaker C: They're pretty cool because I wish they would have had those when I was a kid, right? I would have broke my parents. [00:09:44] Speaker B: I did not realize that this existed. There was actually Hot Wheels vending machine. I don't know where he was, but it was pretty funny. I really had this whole thing in mind that he was gonna buy a real car and then he bought a Hot Wheel. And I love it. Cause he bought almost a little. It looked like a little 18 wheeler. He said, it's got a toilet. I don't know why it came with a toile, but that Hot Wheel in particular came with the toilet. So it was pretty funny. [00:10:07] Speaker A: Start on a positive note. You're on the Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:10:13] Speaker C: We've seen comics and video games turned into movies. Now it looks like producers are looking at board games as the next movies. Netflix has signed a deal to turn Ticket to Ride into a movie. [00:10:27] Speaker B: Some things I feel like are just best left alone. Like, I've played Ticket to Ride before. Fun game, right? I don't see how this is a movie. You, like, pull cards and everybody has cards that they get and you try to complete your routes and each routes are worth a certain amount of points. I don't know how that conveys into a movie. Is it just going to be people fighting to build railroads? [00:10:46] Speaker C: Like, because it's not a character based. It's not like the board game Clue, right? There are characters and all of that kind of thing, but there are no characters in this. So it's going to be interesting to see how they do it because you've got to have, you know, you've got to have your hero. You've got to have your villain. [00:11:01] Speaker B: Right? [00:11:02] Speaker C: So I don't. It's going to be interesting. They've also signed up to turn Catan into a movie again. [00:11:09] Speaker B: What are they gonna do? Just have people fight for supplies and resources? Like, that's a weird one, too. [00:11:14] Speaker C: And then Monopoly, apparently. [00:11:16] Speaker B: So I feel like Monopoly might work because you could have characters fighting over real estate, which is like, they have reality TV shows that kind of are like that nowadays. [00:11:25] Speaker C: You can be sent to jail. [00:11:27] Speaker B: You can be sent to jail. You can collect free parking. That's a house rule. I guess you're not technically supposed to do that, but yeah. A ticket to ride in Catan. Those are some weird ones for me. I'm curious to see how those kind of develop into actual, like, if it. [00:11:42] Speaker C: If it works, then it would be good because then you might get these. Get more people playing the board games again, which I think is always good when people get together and do that [00:11:51] Speaker B: to have a board game night. That is true. You can't be start. [00:11:53] Speaker A: On a positive note, you're on the morning journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:11:59] Speaker C: Last week, we were talking about decluttering, and a way to do it quickly is to use the didn't know rule. If you didn't know you still had an item, let it go. Get rid of it. A person said she decluttered three boxes in under 10 minutes doing that. But, Brittany, you have found another method. [00:12:15] Speaker B: Yeah, that would work. And then when you do that, take those items and give them to your friends. I think this will make it a lot more fun. So you find an item you no longer want, like, say, like a soap dispenser that you don't use anymore. And you take it over your friend's house and you leave it, like, in the bathroom where they would put their soap dispenser. Or, like, if you have, like, a glass that you don't want anymore, you take it over there and you, like, put it in their pantry and see how long it takes them to notice that you're just, like, gifting them items secretly. [00:12:41] Speaker C: You're not telling these people that you're doing this. [00:12:44] Speaker B: Right. [00:12:44] Speaker C: Have you done this? [00:12:45] Speaker B: I have not yet, but I really want to. I think I'm going to start doing it because, you know, we have all this stuff we want to get rid of, and sometimes you don't want to, like, see it go completely. So it's nice if you leave it at a friend's house, because then you can, like, see it when you visit. And it's fun because, you know they'll never know how it got there. [00:13:03] Speaker C: Where did this come from? [00:13:04] Speaker B: What is this? Where did it come from? And then you can be like, I don't know. The key is to not get caught here. That's the goal. [00:13:12] Speaker C: Yeah. I mentioned a few days ago about decluttering. There's the didn't know method. That's if you didn't know you had it, get rid of it. Get rid of it. Let it go. Brittany has found another method that she wants to try. [00:13:27] Speaker B: That's a good method, and this is just a continuation of that. If you go to get rid of it, instead of just tossing it, I think you should take it over your friend's house and give it to them. Like, not present it to them, but, like, leave it at their house. Like a soap dish. Like, leave it in their bathroom. [00:13:42] Speaker C: Just leave it there. [00:13:43] Speaker B: Just leave it there. [00:13:43] Speaker C: Don't tell them. [00:13:44] Speaker B: I have some artwork I really want to get rid of. [00:13:46] Speaker C: Oh, no. I want to see you pull this off. [00:13:48] Speaker B: And I really want to go over at my friend's house and, like, hang this up and tell them. [00:13:52] Speaker C: What are you going to sneak that into? Like, a room they don't use very much? [00:13:56] Speaker B: I don't know. See, this one's going to be hard because if you're doing artwork, you're probably going to have to bring, like, a thumbtack or, like, a hammer and a nail. And I don't know if that one can be done, but that would be. My ultimate goal, is to get rid of some of our old artwork and, like, hang it in my friend's house. [00:14:09] Speaker C: So if you do this, there has to be a video. Somebody's got a video you got to sneak in. [00:14:13] Speaker B: That's going to be even harder. Two people, one with artwork and one videoing. I think we're going to get caught. [00:14:18] Speaker C: What are you doing back there? What are you doing downstairs? [00:14:20] Speaker B: Easier things would be, like, we have a lot of glassware, so we're trimming down our glassware. Coffee mugs. That would be an easier thing to hide at someone's house. [00:14:27] Speaker C: Or you could go to the store and when you buy a picture frame, it's got some random family in there. I've always thought it would be fun just to get one of those and then just take it to somebody's house and leave it, like, prop it up [00:14:37] Speaker B: on their table with their family photos. [00:14:38] Speaker C: Family photos. See how long it takes them to realize it's. [00:14:42] Speaker B: Honestly, they probably wouldn't notice until someone else came over and asked them, like, who's this? I turn y' all on in the morning when I get in my truck. It's helpful when I'm taking the kids to school. Here we go. [00:14:53] Speaker A: It's the Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:14:56] Speaker C: The joy is the journey is here to encourage you each day to be thankful with you in those times of joy and to be right there with you during disappointment, hurt, sorrow. Each day, some of you are experiencing joy, some of you are experiencing sorrow. I was thinking about that. It's like being in a crowd of people, and some people in the crowd, they're having great days, but other people in the crowd, not so great days. And a reminder that joy and sorrow are right next to each other. [00:15:24] Speaker B: Yes, sometimes hope and disappointment show up in the same exact conversation. Sometimes faith is strong, but grief is also loud. And the Bible doesn't clean up the mess of our real life. It really does meet us in it. I love that God doesn't, like, brush away our pain or confusion or our messiness. He just sits with us in it and he's faithful through it. And so, you know, you might be feeling sorrowful in one moment and also experience joy in the same. And that's really just a testament to the peace of God that surpasses all understandings. How can you be grieving and also experience joy? Or how can you be so happy and your friend be so sad at the same time? Like, God doesn't ask us to clean ourselves up before coming to Him. He is ready for our messiness and our sorrows and our grief and. And then he also brings us joy in those moments. It reminds me of the I Am Day song Scars like thankful for the scars because that's what brings us closer to God. [00:16:14] Speaker A: Thanks for catching up on the Morning Journey Rewind podcast with Mark and Brittany.
