[00:00:00] Speaker A: This is the Morning Journey Rewind with Mark and Brittany. Never miss a moment.
[00:00:04] Speaker B: This week on the Morning Journey Rewind. Roses are red, violets are blue. We have a Valentine's giveaway for you. Also, Brittany has a big announcement. Stella has her first dance recital. And do you have a name for something that only makes sense in your family? Also, Brittany and mark talk 1950s predictions and dissect some of the more weird tech at the Consumer Electronics Show.
[00:00:26] Speaker C: Be working on your Valentine's poem. We're looking for something creative, something fun. And the winning entry. The winning poem will receive a special Valentine's prize pack.
[00:00:37] Speaker D: This is all in time for Valentine's Day, which is closer than you think. So if you haven't started thinking about it yet, we are offering you an opportunity to win dinner on us. And so all you have to do, we'll tell you all the details as it gets closer. But towards the end of the month, we'll give you an opportunity to enter to submit your poem. We'll be reading some of those poems on air. We'll pick a winner and then you will win dinner for two. And so just make sure you're thinking now of a great Valentine's Day poem. Like roses are red, violets are blue, the journey has dinner for two for you.
Something like that. I mean, it can be better than that. Hopefully it'll be better than that. But be thinking about your Valentine's Day poems now and we'll give you an opportunity to win dinner for two later this month.
[00:01:17] Speaker A: You, your day starts with encouragement. The morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:01:22] Speaker C: Well, when I came in yesterday, there was an envelope laying here for me. And Brittany said, oh, that's our family Christmas cards. Just a little late.
So I opened the card, I looked at it quickly, saw the pictures, but I did not pay attention to a part of the card down at the bottom. And I said, oh, that's nice. She said, look at it again.
[00:01:41] Speaker D: I said, look a little bit closer.
[00:01:43] Speaker C: Then I saw the news.
[00:01:45] Speaker D: Yes. So we are expecting our second child. So we did Christmas cards, but we did it with like our team jerseys because we're commander's fans. And so we had to wait for the jerseys to come in. Then we had to book a last minute photo sessions and then we had to make the cards and print the cards and mail the cards. So everyone's getting their cards right about now. And so, yeah, it was fun letting all the staff know in. In our little Christmas party yesterday.
[00:02:10] Speaker C: Yeah, it was. So congratulations.
[00:02:12] Speaker D: Thank you.
[00:02:12] Speaker C: We think it's Great.
[00:02:13] Speaker D: Yeah. We don't know yet if it's a boy or girl. We'll find in February. And we're taking name suggestions if anybody has any, because we got really lucky with Stella. We both finally agreed on it, but it took us a while to agree. And we're struggling this time, boy or girl. So we'll see how it goes. So praying for a name. If anybody's got ideas, let us know.
[00:02:36] Speaker A: Start on a positive note. You're on the morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:02:41] Speaker C: So when we left on Friday, Brittany was headed home. She had to get ready for Stella's recital.
[00:02:49] Speaker D: Yep. Her first dance recital was this weekend. And so I did her makeup, and her grandma did her hair and all that turned out good. She was a little monkey. It was wizard of Oz themed, so they danced to, like, five little monkeys.
She did amazing.
[00:03:03] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:03:03] Speaker D: I was so surprised. So proud of her. Like, she danced to the whole song. She did all the moves. Like, it was funny. When they first went out there, she was like, daddy and was, like, looking for us in the crowd. Cause we were, like, kind of way up in the dark. So we were, like, trying to jump around for her to see us. And then she kept yell, caroline, which is my niece, she was with us. And so she was trying to get our attention, but she did. So. In fact, I watched this class every week, so I've seen them practice the song. They all exceeded expectations. They all did such a good job.
[00:03:34] Speaker C: Now there was a part in it where they all have to lay down. And you were concerned. Once she laid down, she wasn't gonna get up.
[00:03:40] Speaker D: She got back up. Thankfully, she did. She got back up. And so we were very, very proud of her and her little dance routine. So we had a great time, and a lot of family came in to see her. So, yeah, very, very proud parents.
[00:03:54] Speaker A: Uplifting and encouraging because you need it now more than ever.
[00:03:58] Speaker C: You betcha.
[00:03:59] Speaker A: The morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:04:01] Speaker C: So sometimes families will have a certain name for things. Nobody else calls it that. Usually this starts when a child is small. They can't quite maybe pronounce a word and it sticks. Or maybe they just make up a name for something.
When I was a kid, my mom would make this meal. It was very simple, easy to make. It was ground beef gravy over toast.
[00:04:21] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:04:22] Speaker C: So that's what it was. My sister came up with this name. It was called Shrimp and Sran Dalofa.
[00:04:29] Speaker D: Shrimp and Srindalofa.
[00:04:31] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:04:31] Speaker D: Why Shrimp?
[00:04:32] Speaker C: I have no idea. That's what she called it. When we were kids. And so it stuck. And so my sister, she will still on occasionally, will, on occasion, will make it.
[00:04:40] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:04:41] Speaker C: And we'll still call it shrimp and shrine Lofa. That's funny because I don't know what trend alofa is.
[00:04:45] Speaker D: If you said that to anyone else, they'd be like, what? Yeah, the ones for me are like, you said, like, for my daughter Stella, she's made up words like restaurant instead of restaurant. Like, she combined astronaut and restaurant together. And then the other one that we say a lot is commercemellows. Like, commercials are commarshmallows. And now that she's getting older, she's starting to, like, lose some of those words, which is really sad. And so we're hoping she'll hang onto them for a little bit longer, but are like, our two. And sometimes I'll be talking to, like, my friends, and I'll be like, oh, did you try the new restaurant? And they'll be like, what? I'm like, restaurant, what's wrong with you? Like, I can't shake it. It's one of those things, though. You get used to saying it around the family, and then you forget that it's, like, not an actual thing with anyone else.
[00:05:29] Speaker C: We're just going to worship, we're going.
[00:05:31] Speaker D: To be encouraged, and we're just going to be together.
[00:05:34] Speaker A: That's the idea. You're on the Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:05:38] Speaker C: Every generation has their predictions for the future. When I was a kid, I used to wonder, like, oh, what would it be like in, you know, the 3000s or something like that.
[00:05:48] Speaker D: I didn't even think we'd get that far.
[00:05:50] Speaker C: Yeah. So back in the 1950s, people had made predictions of what the 2000s would look like, what would be popular, what would we have available to us?
[00:06:01] Speaker D: Fine cars.
[00:06:02] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:06:03] Speaker D: Hasn't happened.
[00:06:03] Speaker C: No. The one thing that they predicted, and I do wish we had these, because I have always wanted one, and that is a.
That is a jet pack.
[00:06:10] Speaker D: Ooh, that could be kind of fun.
[00:06:12] Speaker C: I think jet packs would be great.
[00:06:14] Speaker D: I mean, you'd have to really get used to flying them so you don't have to crash into stuff. But they could be pretty cool. Fast way to get somewhere. This one is weird to me. A hose would replace house cleaning. They believe that the cleaning, like, houses would involve cleaning. A house would involve hoses because the whole house would be waterproof, synthetic, and entirely washable.
Who wants to sit on a plastic couch? Like, if we all got bubble furniture, linoleum floors, and paneled walls. Maybe this would be doable.
[00:06:46] Speaker C: But a wash and wipe house?
[00:06:48] Speaker D: I don't know. Who wants to live in a house like that? Glad that didn't happen.
[00:06:50] Speaker C: Yeah. The moon would have subdivisions by now.
[00:06:54] Speaker D: Okay, I could see that. That could be kind of cool. Like we got the space station. Why not live on the moon?
[00:07:00] Speaker C: Vacation domes, full time residents, real estate brochures showing the earth out the window. And your new subdivision on the moon.
[00:07:09] Speaker D: That'd be kind of cool. Gasoline engines would disappear. We might see that one. This one scares me. Robot housekeepers.
Ah, no thank you.
Not a fan of that.
[00:07:21] Speaker C: Cable would end commercials.
[00:07:23] Speaker D: I wish.
[00:07:24] Speaker C: But that did not happen.
[00:07:25] Speaker D: That's never gonna happen.
[00:07:26] Speaker C: Now we have more commercials.
[00:07:28] Speaker D: The thing that'll end first is cable itself because there's all the streaming services. But commercials I feel like will always be around.
[00:07:36] Speaker E: I just kind of channel surfing through the radio.
[00:07:38] Speaker A: Families are catching on and I'm like.
[00:07:40] Speaker E: Wow, this is pretty cool.
[00:07:41] Speaker A: To the best way.
[00:07:42] Speaker E: So now this is the only thing.
[00:07:43] Speaker A: I listen to now to wake up.
[00:07:44] Speaker E: My style of everything has started and changed.
[00:07:46] Speaker A: It's the morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:07:49] Speaker C: The annual consumer electronics show just wrapped up. I always like to go in and see some of the, the reviews of the new products that are, that are out. It's always interesting to me.
[00:07:58] Speaker D: They always come out with some like weird things for sure. Like what is this? Like teeth music? Like lollipops.
[00:08:06] Speaker C: Yeah. So I think that's probably the strangest thing.
[00:08:09] Speaker D: Teeth music. You can get a lollipop and it like plays a song to you while you're eating the lollipop.
[00:08:15] Speaker C: Yeah. So the company is called Lollipop Star and it's a device that plays music through your teeth. $9 lollipops that use bone conduction to play music into your inner ear.
[00:08:27] Speaker D: For $9 I would try this. I'm kind of curious, like can anyone else hear it or only you can.
[00:08:32] Speaker C: Hear it while you're eating the candy? I think it's.
[00:08:35] Speaker D: I wonder if we can like order them on Amazon. We'll have to try those. I thought the twisted headphones were cool.
[00:08:40] Speaker C: I think that's the coolest idea. So headphones that twist into speakers so you could listen privately and then share your sounds with other people. Speaking of the headphones, they have brain sensing headphones that are coming out. These are primarily for gamers and it can track reaction times and thought processes.
[00:09:00] Speaker D: No, thank you.
[00:09:00] Speaker C: You don't want anything tracking your thought process?
[00:09:02] Speaker D: I don't want anything tracking my thought process. Some of the weirder things were a companion panda, an AI Amy, which was like, AI companions for people, like a panda. And then, like, almost like a person, which creeped me out.
[00:09:14] Speaker C: Yeah. That is, I'm not there yet on the. On the AI robots and everything.
[00:09:19] Speaker D: I think I'll pass on that one. And one thing that really, I think is completely unnecessary, but if you want one, is the smart purse.
[00:09:25] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:09:26] Speaker D: It's got, like, an oled, like, display on it.
[00:09:29] Speaker C: On your purse?
[00:09:30] Speaker D: On your purse. And so, like, the purse, like, lights up, I guess.
[00:09:35] Speaker C: Does it display everything that's in the purse?
[00:09:38] Speaker D: It doesn't seem like it. I'm trying to figure out what it actually displays, and so far it just looks like it lights up.
[00:09:43] Speaker C: Yeah. Some of the items.
[00:09:44] Speaker D: $9,000. No, thank you.
[00:09:46] Speaker C: Yeah. Some of the items seem like they're unnecessary. Some like they would be fun, and.
[00:09:50] Speaker D: Some are cool and useful.
[00:09:53] Speaker C: Why do I need that?
[00:09:56] Speaker A: Some great music. The morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:09:59] Speaker C: When you think about a gamer, you think about somebody in high school, College, May, early 20s. But surprisingly, that is not necessarily the case.
[00:10:09] Speaker D: You usually think Gaia as well. But right now, women are also playing a lot of video games. Right now, the average gamer is 36 years old, and it's a good chance that they're actually female.
[00:10:21] Speaker C: Yeah. How about that?
The industry is $59.3 billion. When you count consoles and the games and all of that, 28% are Gen Xers. That's people over 50.
[00:10:34] Speaker D: Do you play any video games?
[00:10:35] Speaker C: So it's a game simulation. It's called Iracing. It's an auto racing simulator. And so I run that quite. It's very realistic. And I know that there's a lot of people my age that are on there. There's a lot of young people, too, but. Yeah, so Iracing is pretty much the one that I still play.
[00:10:54] Speaker D: The only racing that I do, and I'm really bad at it, is Mario Kart. I am terrible.
[00:10:58] Speaker C: I'm not good at Mario Kart. I've tried it.
[00:11:00] Speaker D: It's so hard. If there's a way to fall off of something, I will fall off of a level every time. My husband and I play this game called It Takes Two Together, where you get to work together to complete challenges and levels and stuff. So that's been a lot of fun. And then we play the regular standard, just like Mario, where you go through the levels, because our daughter Stella, she's not quite able to figure out the controller yet, but she will hold the controller and Watch it with us. And so I think she'll become a gamer here pretty soon, if I had any guesses about that.
[00:11:28] Speaker C: And there's so many games on phones now, so I think that maybe that makes them more accessible, especially for people that are older. That may be where the older generation is getting into that.
[00:11:37] Speaker D: Yeah. It also helps you with your, like, cognitive abilities and keeps your mind sharp as well. So the older you get, I mean, playing video games can keep you sharp well into your older years. As long as you're, you know, you can still work the controllers.
[00:11:49] Speaker C: Let your thumb still work.
[00:11:50] Speaker D: Exactly. Then keep doing it.
[00:11:53] Speaker A: Good company. Makes for a great day. The morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:11:58] Speaker C: We have more people letting us know that they are listening on our app. You can be the same and download the My Journey FM app today.
[00:12:05] Speaker D: Super easy to do. Just search your Apple or Android app store. It's absolutely free. Download the MyJourney FM app and then you can take us with you wherever you go. We would love to be along with you on your adventures, whether you're just taking a walk around the neighborhood or taking a vacation around the world. We can accompany you on the MyJourney FM mobile app.
[00:12:25] Speaker A: Start on a positive note. You're on the morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:12:30] Speaker C: This is a flu season. A lot of people are sick. So if you have tried everything and it hasn't worked, try singing.
[00:12:38] Speaker D: Singing along to the journey, preferably. But if not, singing is actually a way to help your body heal. Singing for an hour can increase your antibodies up to 240% because it tells your brain that everything's safe. Safe that you're fine and you're going to be okay. When your brain calms down and feels safe, it actually heals faster.
[00:12:58] Speaker C: Yeah, that's amazing. 240% in less than an hour. So sing away.
[00:13:04] Speaker D: That is so crazy to me that your voice has the ability to do that, but I guess it makes sense. When you're calm, when you're relaxed, your body can focus on healing itself and not the stress of every day. So if you're feeling sick today, put on the journey, blast it up loud and sing some songs and you just might start feeling better sooner.
[00:13:21] Speaker A: Hosts that make you feel like family. You're on the morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:13:26] Speaker C: Thank you so much for listening and letting us know that what you hear on the journey each day is encouraging you.
[00:13:32] Speaker D: Yeah, we heard from a listener who was listening to Laura, and she was. Laura was talking about the passing away of one of her relatives, and she Said everybody always means well. They say, our condolences. And they ask, you know, what can I do for you? Is there anything I can do? And Laura said, you know what? We don't need, like, saying it is great, but what we actually need to do is just do it, like, go get a meal, go get groceries. And the listener said that this came on right after they had pulled away from a restaurant where they had picked up a meal to take to some friends whose wife had fallen and she couldn't get around very well. And so they were just thinking, wow, God's timing is so cool, because we just did that. And she's like, it's true. We need more Christians to be more Christ, like, in loving our neighbors and just, you know, doing the thing instead of asking. Because when you're grieving, you're not really thinking about what someone else can do for you. You just need somebody to come and do it.
[00:14:19] Speaker C: Yeah, exactly. Just being there with them and then, you know, doing something like that, taking a meal. But thank you so much for letting us know.
[00:14:26] Speaker A: Your day starts with encouragement. The Morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:14:30] Speaker C: Chick Fil A is celebrating their 80th year in business. It's hard to believe that they've been around 80 years. So growing up in Ohio, I never heard of Chick Fil A. I did not know about Chick Fil A till we moved here.
[00:14:43] Speaker D: You grew up without Chick Fil A?
[00:14:45] Speaker C: Yes, I did.
[00:14:45] Speaker D: Wow, that just seems sa.
[00:14:48] Speaker C: Yeah. We had Burger Chef.
[00:14:49] Speaker D: I don't know what that is.
[00:14:50] Speaker C: We had Red Barn.
[00:14:52] Speaker D: I know of Red Robin, but never heard of Red Barn either.
[00:14:54] Speaker C: Yeah, so they're celebrating, though, with some special, like, retro branding on their cups. But they're also. They're going to serve floats.
[00:15:02] Speaker D: Yeah. And I also saw this got me really excited.
[00:15:04] Speaker C: I know where you're going.
[00:15:06] Speaker D: They're going to have a specialty cow stuffed animal this year for their 80th anniversary. And so I'm on the lookout for that. It's so funny. Me and Stella adopted cows, like, last year. Chick Fil A. And then every like, four to six months, they'll have an event where we get more accessories for our cows. So now I'm going to have to get, like, this new, like, 80th anniversary cow, like the.
[00:15:28] Speaker C: The specialty plush cow.
[00:15:30] Speaker D: I love it. So happy birthday, Chick Fil A.
Sorry, Mark, that you didn't have one growing up. That's so sad.
[00:15:36] Speaker C: We mentioned earlier that Chick Fil a is celebrating their 80th year this year, and they're introducing some retro designs on. On their cups. But the one thing that Brittany is really excited about are these plush stuffed cows that they are releasing.
[00:15:51] Speaker D: Yeah, I'm really excited. I got to figure out how I can get one of these plush cows.
[00:15:55] Speaker E: Hey, Brittany.
[00:15:57] Speaker D: Yes.
[00:15:58] Speaker E: I've heard you talk about the Chick Fil A plush couch. It's going to be four of them this year. The first one has already been released. You're going to have. You're going to have to search in your Chick Fil A app, but when you go under the menu and scroll on down to see where the merchandise is.
[00:16:15] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:16:17] Speaker E: And that's how you'll figure out which store in your area is carrying it. Now, in Hampton Roads, the one on Monticello Avenue is where I got three yesterday.
[00:16:26] Speaker D: Oh, my goodness.
[00:16:27] Speaker C: Yay.
[00:16:27] Speaker D: Thank you for telling me. I'm so excited.
[00:16:29] Speaker E: Now, according to what Chick Fil A sent me, there's going to be four of them this year. So once they sell out of this first one, they're just going to be working at going on to the next one.
[00:16:39] Speaker D: Okay, good to know. Thank you so much.
[00:16:43] Speaker A: Thanks for catching up on the morning Journey Rewind podcast with Mark and Brittany.
