[00:01:07] Speaker C: So last week, Brittany and I were talking and I had remembered that she had told me that as a kid growing up, she never had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, which is hard for me to imagine. You never had that. [00:01:20] Speaker D: So my mom just. She didn't like them growing up, so she never made them for me. So I never had one. And now as an adult, it's funny, I make one every single day for my daughter, but I've never tried hers. [00:01:30] Speaker C: You've never tasted it? [00:01:31] Speaker D: No. I've never had a desire to be like, I wonder what this tastes like. So I've never done it. And then we were talking and I realized you've never had a peanut butter and banana sandwich. [00:01:40] Speaker C: I have not. Which never even thought about that as an option. [00:01:44] Speaker D: Really? [00:01:44] Speaker C: No. [00:01:45] Speaker D: That is something that I grew up having a lot, especially at my grandma's. Like, it was pretty much a staple, so no peanut butter and jelly for me. But peanut butter and banana is one of the things that we ate quite a bit of. [00:01:55] Speaker C: Okay. [00:01:55] Speaker D: You think you would like it? [00:01:57] Speaker C: I don't know. I probably would. [00:01:59] Speaker D: I think you would. I mean, what's not to like? It's peanut butters. It's bananas. Like, I think it should be good. [00:02:03] Speaker C: Well, I think we should do something about that. [00:02:05] Speaker D: I think so. So we're gonna. We're gonna swap sandwiches here in a minute, and I'm gonna try peanut butter and jelly for the first time. And Mark's gonna try peanut butter and banana, and we'll see if we like it. What kind of jelly did you use on mine? Okay, good. I was gonna say nothing weird. If you said grape, I was gonna be like, that's it. I'm out. [00:02:22] Speaker C: All right. It is taste time. Brittany has never had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich ever. [00:02:29] Speaker D: Nope. And you've never had a peanut butter and banana sandwich. [00:02:31] Speaker C: I have never had one, which was. [00:02:33] Speaker D: Like, a staple for me growing up. [00:02:34] Speaker C: So I made Brittany a peanut butter and jelly sandwich last night. She made me a peanut butter and banana sandwich. [00:02:40] Speaker D: So we're gonna do our little taste test now. This is strawberry jelly. [00:02:43] Speaker C: I agree. With strawberry jelly. Yes. [00:02:44] Speaker D: I make one of these every day with mixed berry for my daughter. And she seems so it shouldn't be that bad. [00:02:48] Speaker C: And I cut my sandwich for her, thinking, well, if she doesn't like it, she only has to eat half of it. Brittany did the same thing. I cut yours, too. [00:02:54] Speaker D: And I cut my bananas in slices. I didn't, like, mash it up, so the texture should be pretty good. [00:02:58] Speaker C: Okay. Is that a fresh banana in there? [00:03:01] Speaker D: Yes. Although I didn't make it last night, so. [00:03:03] Speaker C: All right, here we go. Here we go. [00:03:08] Speaker D: Probably shouldn't eat peanut butter on the end. You know, it's not bad. [00:03:15] Speaker C: Okay. I like it. [00:03:16] Speaker D: I do, too. I think so. [00:03:18] Speaker C: I could see myself doing this. [00:03:19] Speaker D: I don't know if I would make them often for me. [00:03:21] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:03:22] Speaker D: But I might start eating the other half of my daughter's sandwiches. [00:03:26] Speaker C: Yeah. So I don't really eat peanut butter and jelly that much now. Every once in a while, I get hungry for one. It's great with a glass of milk, by the way. [00:03:32] Speaker D: Okay. Good to know. My aunt said it was good with potato chips. I didn't know if she meant on the sandwich or, like, beside it, but. [00:03:38] Speaker C: Really? [00:03:39] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:03:39] Speaker C: Okay. All right. Well, there we go. [00:03:41] Speaker D: I don't hate it. [00:03:42] Speaker C: No. [00:03:43] Speaker D: I actually think it's pretty good. [00:03:44] Speaker C: And you can say you've now. You now can say that you have. [00:03:48] Speaker D: Had peanut butter and jelly. [00:03:50] Speaker C: Peanut butter and jelly sandwich. [00:03:52] Speaker D: And you can say you've eaten peanut butter and banana. Look, we have a whole new thing to add to our diet. [00:03:56] Speaker C: There we go. [00:03:57] Speaker D: Peanut butter sandwiches. [00:03:58] Speaker C: All right, so it's two thumbs up for the PB and J. First time ever that Brittany has Ever had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? And first for me on eating a peanut butter and banana sandwich. We both liked them. [00:04:11] Speaker D: We did, Yeah. I think it'll be something that we won't, like, turn our nose up anymore and we'll, like, try on the regular. So I'm excited that we tried it. My aunt said, have you like that? The peanut butter and jelly is good with chips. [00:04:22] Speaker C: Really? [00:04:22] Speaker D: I don't know if she meant on the sandwich or beside the sandwich, but, like. [00:04:25] Speaker C: So I have half of my sandwich left. [00:04:27] Speaker D: Do you have. She said mine was good with chips. [00:04:30] Speaker C: Oh, did she try also not on the. [00:04:32] Speaker D: Not on the peanut butter and banana. On the peanut butter and jelly. [00:04:35] Speaker C: Well, here you go. [00:04:36] Speaker D: Am I gonna have to do this? I still don't know if she meant in the chip or on the other side. She also said, have you tried peanut butter and banana with mayonnaise? [00:04:44] Speaker C: Now that I'm not into. [00:04:45] Speaker D: I think I'm gonna pass on that. [00:04:46] Speaker C: I think I will pass on the mayonnaise. [00:04:47] Speaker D: That sounds gross. [00:04:48] Speaker C: On the sandwich. [00:04:49] Speaker D: No, thank you. And then Ashley wrote in, and she said, you should try drizzling honey on the peanut butter and banana. Now, that one I might be able to get. [00:04:57] Speaker C: That sounds good. I like that idea. [00:04:58] Speaker D: She said her kids like doing that. All right, I'm gonna put it there. [00:05:00] Speaker C: Thank you, Ashley. [00:05:01] Speaker D: And put a chip on the sandwich. [00:05:02] Speaker C: Got the chip on the PB and J. Yes. There's a little salty flavor to the PB and J. [00:05:13] Speaker D: Not so much flavor as, like, texture. Like, I like it for the texture. [00:05:16] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:05:16] Speaker D: Because peanut butter and jelly is kind of mushy. So, like, the chip is a little, like, adds a little crunch to it. So. [00:05:21] Speaker C: Doable. [00:05:22] Speaker D: Doable. I mean, I've heard of putting sandwich, like, chips on, like, other types of sandwiches. Deli sandwiches. [00:05:27] Speaker C: I do that all the time. [00:05:28] Speaker D: Right. And that makes sense. So why not put it on a peanut butter and jelly? Look, we're trying so many new things this morning. You're on the Journey. This is Mark and Brittany. Hello. [00:05:37] Speaker E: Good morning. This is Linda from Norfolk, Virginia. [00:05:40] Speaker D: Hi, Linda. [00:05:41] Speaker E: And the best banana sandwich is banana and sugar. [00:05:45] Speaker C: Oh, okay. [00:05:47] Speaker D: All right. So just bananas and sugar, Nothing else? [00:05:50] Speaker E: No, no. Definitely not mayonnaise. [00:05:54] Speaker D: I'm out on the mayonnaise. That sounds gross. [00:05:56] Speaker E: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It really. I don't like mayonnaise anyhow. [00:06:00] Speaker C: So a banana and sugar sandwich. [00:06:02] Speaker E: Yep. [00:06:03] Speaker C: And you can. [00:06:03] Speaker E: You can do it to taste. You know, you don't have to put a lot or you can put a little. Or, you know. A lot or a little? It doesn't matter. [00:06:10] Speaker D: Okay, so just bread, banana, sugar, bread. [00:06:13] Speaker E: Yep, that's it. [00:06:14] Speaker D: All right. [00:06:15] Speaker C: That sounds good. [00:06:16] Speaker D: Thanks for calling. [00:06:16] Speaker C: Thank you. [00:06:17] Speaker E: Enjoy it. [00:06:18] Speaker C: So we were talking about yesterday being the first for Brittany and I. Brittany had never, ever had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Until yesterday, I had never tried a peanut butter and banana sandwich, which is shocking. [00:06:32] Speaker D: A lot of people, actually, that we never tried these things. [00:06:34] Speaker C: Yes, it is. But we liked them, actually. So thumbs up for both of those. But we had several people commented. [00:06:41] Speaker D: We did. Yeah. We posted on our Facebook page, Kathy said, now try peanut butter and bacon. [00:06:48] Speaker C: Hmm. [00:06:49] Speaker D: I think. I mean, that. [00:06:51] Speaker C: Actually, you know what? [00:06:52] Speaker D: Sounded terrible. [00:06:52] Speaker C: I would try that. [00:06:53] Speaker D: I think I probably would like bacon. That sounds pretty good. [00:06:55] Speaker C: Everybody likes bacon. [00:06:56] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah. [00:06:58] Speaker C: Wanda says you have to put Duke's mayo on the peanut butter sandwich. Takes it to a whole new level. [00:07:04] Speaker D: I don't know. Like, everybody's talking about adding peanut butter to, like, sandwich or mayonnaise to peanut butter sandwiches, and I'm just like. I don't know. [00:07:11] Speaker C: I know. I don't think about that combination. [00:07:13] Speaker D: You know, I like mayonnaise, but mayo. [00:07:16] Speaker C: With the peanut butter. [00:07:17] Speaker D: Do you like mayonnaise on the regular? [00:07:19] Speaker C: I don't mind it. Yeah. On a. Like a sandwich. Deli sandwich. [00:07:21] Speaker D: Yeah. Like, I like mayonnaise. So, like, maybe. Maybe it's okay. And then Susan said, creamy peanut butter and grape jelly. The best lunch for work any day. And again with the mayonnaise, putting it back on the peanut butter and banana sandwiches. We'll have to try it, I guess. [00:07:38] Speaker C: Who knew that peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and peanut butter and banana sandwiches would prompt so many comments. But thanks, everybody, for joining in on the conversation. [00:07:49] Speaker D: Yeah. We've had so many comments on our Facebook page after we tried these yesterday. So Susan said peanut butter and jelly is even better if you lightly toast it because it makes the peanut butter extra creamy. Ah. [00:07:59] Speaker C: Okay. [00:07:59] Speaker D: Now, do you like chunky peanut butter? [00:08:00] Speaker C: I do. [00:08:01] Speaker D: Really? [00:08:01] Speaker C: That's actually my preference. I made us. Now, I made this smooth. I used the smooth peanut butter for you yesterday because I didn't know if you'd like the crunchy, but crunchy is my favorite. [00:08:11] Speaker D: Interesting. Okay, good to know. Next time, make your peanut butter and banana with that. Dixie said it's a lot better if the peanut butter and the jelly are initially mixed together into a smooth consistency and then put on the bread and preferably refrigerated. [00:08:26] Speaker C: So mix it up first. [00:08:27] Speaker D: I guess so. [00:08:27] Speaker C: And then put it in. By the way, if you're just tuning in. Why are you guys talking about peanut butter and jelly sandwiches? Because Brittany had never had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich before yesterday. I had never had a peanut butter and banana sandwich. Kathy says I've never had either one of those either. The combination of jelly and peanut butter does not appeal to her. She says, I'm at the age I don't need to try new foods. I stick with the tried and true stuff. Thank you, Kathy. [00:08:58] Speaker D: Well, Kathy, you got a point there. [00:09:00] Speaker A: Uplifting and encouraging because you need it now more than ever. [00:09:04] Speaker C: You betcha. [00:09:05] Speaker A: The Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:09:08] Speaker C: So, several years ago, the Journey staff was reading this book on having a mission as a team. How to accomplish things, how to be better. And the author said, don't be a checklist person. Now, what he meant by that was, don't approach your job as just a series of things to mark off your checklist. Go beyond that. I understood his point, but he really was kind of down on people making a checklist. So I disagreed with it because I am a checklist person and I know you are, too. [00:09:36] Speaker D: I am. I like having a list of things to accomplish, and I like being able to check those things off a list. We even do this at home, like with chores and stuff. But do you ever just write something on the list, like after you've done it, just so you can check it off? [00:09:50] Speaker C: Yes. [00:09:50] Speaker D: I do this all the time. I'm like, in the middle of cleaning or in the middle of doing something for work, and it wasn't on my list to do, but I will add it to the list. [00:09:58] Speaker C: I do, too. [00:09:59] Speaker D: Just so that I can feel accomplished and check it off. I mean, it feels good. It feels like, oh, look, I accomplished something and now I can go on to the next thing on my list. [00:10:06] Speaker C: It does help keep your kind of day, your day organized and things like that. Obviously, you want to set bigger goals and work on those, but I think you got to have a daily kind of list to kind of schedule your day. [00:10:18] Speaker D: Yeah. And I think there's nothing wrong with adding stuff on there that you've already accomplished. It gives you a little win for the moment. [00:10:25] Speaker C: Yesterday, Brittany and I were talking about being checklist people. You make a list of things that you need to get done, and then you check everything off when you get it done. But you had asked me a question that I thought was interesting. You said, do you ever do something that wasn't on the list? When you get it done, go back and. And then write it on the list. [00:10:44] Speaker D: I absolutely do this and I do that. [00:10:46] Speaker C: I wondered if I was the only person that does that, but I am not. [00:10:48] Speaker D: It just makes you feel good because you're like, oh, look, I accomplished something. And then you have to add it to the list so you can see that you accomplished it. We're not alone in this. Cassie is very similar, actually. [00:10:58] Speaker E: I totally also put more things on my to do list. Like laundry turns into four checklists that I've accomplished. You have to wash it, dry it, hold it, and put it away. [00:11:09] Speaker D: That's true. Laundry becomes instead of one task, the case becomes four tasks. Because you do. You have to wash it, dry it, fold it, and put it away. So there you go. You can't just put laundry on the list because laundry encompasses a lot of things. [00:11:21] Speaker C: Put all the steps on there. [00:11:23] Speaker D: I love it. [00:11:25] Speaker A: Some great music. The Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:11:28] Speaker C: Well, the Journey wants to help you have a great Valentine's date, but you have to do a little project. You have to write a poem. A creative, funny Valentine's poem. Let's see if I enter that into AI here. [00:11:42] Speaker D: Yeah. What's AI Come up with? [00:11:43] Speaker C: So it says, here we go. You're my valentine. It's really quite clear. No refunds, no exchanges. You're stuck with me this year. I know you have to do better than that. [00:11:54] Speaker D: That's pretty good, though, for, you know, just using AI to help. So, yeah, write us a little poem. It'll be live on Monday. You'll be able to enter for that chance to win dinner on the journey. I know it seems like Valentine's Day is so far away, but really it's not that far away. We're almost at the end of January and so be thinking about that poem. And then we will tell you how to enter the contest on Monday. [00:12:14] Speaker E: I just kind of channel surfing through the radio. [00:12:16] Speaker A: Families are catching on and I'm like. [00:12:18] Speaker E: Wow, this is pretty cool. [00:12:19] Speaker A: To the best way. [00:12:20] Speaker D: So now this is the only thing. [00:12:21] Speaker A: I listen to now to wake up. [00:12:22] Speaker E: My style of everything has started and changed. [00:12:24] Speaker A: It's the Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:12:27] Speaker C: Brittany is getting ready for story time at your daughter Stella's school. Now, the other day you were still deciding what book to read. [00:12:36] Speaker D: Yeah, well, I have to bring four or five books. [00:12:38] Speaker C: Oh. [00:12:38] Speaker D: So quite a bit. I have to bring like quilt or blanket for the kids to sit on. They're dividing the class into like two, three kids per parent. [00:12:45] Speaker C: Okay. [00:12:46] Speaker D: And so I'm bringing the Journey blanket. Free advertising. [00:12:48] Speaker C: There we go. [00:12:48] Speaker D: You know, so we're gonna do that. And I picked out the books, but it's also pajama day, and her teacher wrote in there, Feel free to wear your pajamas. [00:12:55] Speaker C: So are you. [00:12:57] Speaker D: I don't think I'm gonna go full pajamas, but I have a cow onesie, and they're learning about animals, so I might show up in my cow onesie to read. The question is, is that too distracting? And will the kids actually pay attention to what I'm reading if I'm dressed like a cow? We will find out. [00:13:12] Speaker C: That'll be more fun. [00:13:13] Speaker D: Yeah, I think so. [00:13:15] Speaker C: Yesterday, Brittany, you were going to go to your daughter's school. This was a reading day. [00:13:20] Speaker D: Yeah, it was. People who love us are coming to read. And so I signed up to read. They told us to bring a blanket. So I brought the Journey blanket. You know, free advertising. And then I broug five books, and now it's from 11:30. They get out of school at 12, so I thought five books would be plenty. And then I was worried I was gonna run out of time. When I started the last book, I was like, oh, no, I don't have enough books. What am I gonna do? But they divided the class into groups of, like, three or four. So I ended up with Stella and three of her friends. And let's just say they would rather hang out with each other than really pay attention to what I was reading. And I also was distracting because it was pajama day at school. So they told the parents, feel free to wear pajamas. [00:13:56] Speaker C: So I was gonna ask you about this, and. [00:13:58] Speaker D: And I wore my cow once. [00:14:00] Speaker C: You did wear it? [00:14:01] Speaker D: I did. And so, yeah, everyone was very excited that I was a cow, so that was also distracting. But we made it through. I think they liked the books that I brought. I tried to pick some exciting ones, ones they probably hadn't seen before. And they're learning about animals. Okay, so one of the books was about solitary animals. Animals that are, like, alone. They don't, like, live in packs and stuff. And I'm reading the first book, and there's a panther in it. Cause panthers are solitary animals. And one of the girls goes, I'm scared of those. And I was like, okay, turn the page quickly. [00:14:29] Speaker C: Moving on. [00:14:30] Speaker D: Yes, moving on. So overall, it went really well. It's always fun to be able to come and surprise her at school. [00:14:37] Speaker A: Thanks for catching up on the morning Journey Rewind podcast with Mark and Brittany.
