[00:00:01] Speaker A: This is the Morning Journey Rewind with Mark and Brittany.
[00:00:04] Speaker B: This week on the Morning Journey podcast, Mark and Brittany are on a billboard. They need your vote for Lynchburg Living. Best of and the Journey partner invitation is coming up September 16th through 19th. Also, we asked what brings you joy and would you attend an adult summer camp? Brittany definitely would.
[00:00:22] Speaker C: I have not seen it yet, but the Morning Journey billboards are up.
[00:00:26] Speaker D: Yeah, I love this. So I got a text. I was in church on Sunday and my friend James texted me and said, brittany Menard, you is on a billboard. Just saw it while heading to the park. Looks great.
He said it's on 221 at the shopping center where food line is like next to that Jiffy Lube on the side of the road. So if you're out and about and you see Mark and I on a billboard and you can safely, and I do mean safely, like at a stoplight in a parking lot somewhere, safely take a picture and send it to us. We would love to see it. But yeah, so if you're driving out and about and you see us on a billboard, that's what we look like.
[00:00:58] Speaker A: Helping to get your day started. The Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:01:02] Speaker C: Hey, we thank you so much for listening to the Journey. Listening to the Morning Journey.
[00:01:07] Speaker D: Yeah. And we have an opportunity. It's coming. It's that time of year again for you to vote for us for Lunchburg Living. Best of best radio DJs. And so the contest is not live just yet, but it will be within the next week or so. So when it is live, we'll post the link, we'll show you and tell you how to vote and where to vote and all that good stuff. But we would so, so appreciate your votes. Just be thinking about it and when it becomes live we will. But yeah, Lynchburg Living, it's time to vote already again. I cannot believe it.
[00:01:31] Speaker C: Wow.
[00:01:32] Speaker A: A great day begins with a positive morning. You're on the Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:01:38] Speaker C: You believe Partner invitation. We are not that far away. September 16th through the 19th is our partner invitation. And then on the 15th, the day before partner, we'll have our kids giving day.
[00:01:49] Speaker D: Yeah. If you didn't know, the Journey is listener supported and so we need listeners just like you to help us get get through the last 10 years. So far, God has blessed us through listeners like you. And so thank you so much for giving in the past and just be praying we're doing it a little early this time around. It's only in October, but now it's going to be in September. So yeah, less around a month away at this point. So be praying about how God would have you get involved and if this is your first partner invitation, just sit back and listen and see the stories and the work that the Lord is doing through the ministry here at the Journey.
[00:02:19] Speaker C: Susan lives in Hertford, North Carolina. She says, I started listening to the journey in 2016. I found the station one morning when I was at my lowest and haven't stopped listening since that day. Eventually I became a monthly supporter and I am blessed every single day. Well, thank you so much for helping the Journey be here for Susan through your support. Our partner invitation starts September 16th and that's an opportunity for you to do what Susan's done, listen to the Journey and then also become a monthly supporter or a one time supporter.
[00:02:53] Speaker D: Yeah, it's always awesome when a longtime listener takes that next step into giving and helping that be helping us be there for the next person. And so partner rotation, September 16th. If you've given before, you'll have a letter in your mailbox. It should be there any day now. Make sure you read it. Find out what's going on here at the Journey. We would so, so appreciate that. And then yeah, mark your calendars and if you want to find out more information, you can go to our website myjourneyfm.com and learn some more about us and partner invitation there as well.
[00:03:21] Speaker A: Mark, Brittany and you, you're on the morning journey.
[00:03:25] Speaker C: Romans 15:13 says, May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
[00:03:35] Speaker D: I feel like joy is one of those things that we tend to overlook or don't think about in the moment. And then we're like, oh, I feel kind of sad and I don't have any joy. But I like what Rachel posted. She was like, I challenge you to write 10 things that bring you joy on a daily basis. Not different things every day, just 10 things that if you do them or get the chance, bring you joy. Some of her laughing with her kids at slow cup of coffee in the morning. She likes going to like locally owned coffee shops too and asking them. Make me this special. She said every place I've ever went has had a special and I've never been disappointed.
[00:04:06] Speaker C: Yeah, I think that's cool. I think Joy, it really comes down to attitude.
[00:04:10] Speaker D: Yes.
[00:04:10] Speaker C: You know, so like something as simple as a cup of coffee that you really like, that little treat, whatever you want to call that can give you joy.
[00:04:18] Speaker D: I think what gives me joy is like laughing with our kids. Like laughing with my daughter is one of those things on the daily that like brings me joy. Curling up with like a nice hoodie and a good book by a fire.
Like so much joy in those moments.
[00:04:31] Speaker C: Very cool.
[00:04:32] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:04:32] Speaker C: For me it's. Well, I tell you what, my sister, my brother in law, they're in town this week and then we're all going over to Virginia beach for the weekend for my great niece's or nephew's one year birthday.
[00:04:43] Speaker D: Aw. Yay.
[00:04:44] Speaker C: So I think just like when our family is together, we get the opportunity to do that. That gives me joy for sure.
[00:04:49] Speaker D: Yeah. Good things. This is on our Facebook page right now, MyJourney FM, if you want to tell us what brings you joy.
[00:04:55] Speaker C: So we are talking about joy this morning and want to know what brings you joy. You can let us know when you go to the Journey Facebook page. There is a link right there that you can post.
[00:05:05] Speaker D: Yeah, my Journey FM on Facebook. You'll see the post right there. Jackie said her granddaughter Kathy said being able to make quilts and give them away. Love that. Think that's super sweet. I wish I had like a crafting skill where I could do something like that.
[00:05:19] Speaker C: So my mom does that. She makes quilts. Yeah. And so she will make them and she does not sell them. She gives them to people. They're absolutely beautiful.
[00:05:27] Speaker D: So sweet.
[00:05:27] Speaker C: Barbara says to be able to enjoy my granddaughters.
[00:05:31] Speaker D: Oh, I love that. And Brian, this is really sweet just knowing that my wife is smiling down at me from heaven.
[00:05:37] Speaker C: Thank you, Brian.
[00:05:38] Speaker D: Yeah, thank you, Brian. So if you want to tell us what brings you joy, My Journey FM on Facebook.
[00:05:43] Speaker C: We've enjoyed seeing your comments on what makes you joyful, what brings joy into your life.
[00:05:49] Speaker D: Yeah. My friend Rachel posted this. She had a list of 10 things that she likes to write down to make her be mindful. Really, because we like skip over these moments throughout our day. We get so like bogged down with the to do list and the things that we're doing that we like will skip those moments that truly bring us joy. For her it was like that cup of coffee in the morning or laughing with her child. Ashley wrote in. She said, I have eight cats, three dogs and eight chickens and they always bring me so much joy as long as the chickens don't get out. Our friends down the street have chickens. Sometimes they get out. And that sounds stressful, more so than joyful. But otherwise I could see how that would bring you Joy.
[00:06:24] Speaker A: They'll help you wake up the morning. Journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:06:27] Speaker D: Well, Mark, did you ever go to summer camp growing up?
[00:06:30] Speaker C: I did. So the church that we went to in Canton, Ohio, they had their own camp. And so my sister and I would go probably pretty much every summer.
[00:06:40] Speaker D: It was always so fun. I went to Camp Rudolph in darling Virginia. Every year. My church would have a week that we would go with the same churches every year. And so it was cool because you got to see the same kids. And then when I was in college, my husband actually booked us a college weekend there with those same kids from, like, when I had gone, like, all through middle school. So that was really, really cool to see. And now they are bringing back summer camp for adults. And I absolutely love this idea. Like, I don't know. I think I miss the nostalgia of summer camp. Not to mention, your meals are taken care of. Like, your activities are planned for the weekend. You get to, like, hang out with people, like your own age and, like, marshmallow roast. Right. Meet new friends. Kind of, like, disconnect from everything. Because most of the, like, places that there are summer camps, there's no cell service.
And so I think that's nice. I think this would be really fun. I loved summer camp.
[00:07:30] Speaker C: I always liked. We. We broke ours. They did two teams.
[00:07:33] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:07:33] Speaker C: You know, you had the. I think we did, like, Stars and Stripes.
[00:07:36] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:07:36] Speaker C: I remember at the camp. And so all week long you had this ongoing competition.
[00:07:39] Speaker D: Right.
[00:07:40] Speaker C: So that was fun.
[00:07:40] Speaker D: We did stuff like that, too. I think this is a great idea now. It does. It's a little pricey. It's around $800 for a weekend. But again, all your activities are planned. You have a place to stay, you have your meals. I like the competitive aspect of it. It just. I don't know, there's something about going to a good summer camp. I think we need to bring this back.
[00:07:58] Speaker B: You guys always make me smile.
[00:08:00] Speaker A: The morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:08:03] Speaker D: Well, it's summertime, and that means travel. I mean, just for a couple more weeks. We know back to school is coming, but one thing that parents love hearing in the car is, are we there yet?
Are we there yet? Just kidding. But I saw this hack for road trips, and I think I'm going to use this for myself and my child.
It's cool. You take a sticky note and you break up the trip into 30 minute increments. So for every 30 minutes, you have a sticky note that says, like, 30 minutes. 30 minutes. 30 minutes. And if it's a seven hour trip. You got a bunch of them, but. And then every 30 minutes you get to pull one of the sticky notes.
[00:08:34] Speaker C: So now you put the sticky notes up like on the back window, right?
[00:08:36] Speaker D: Like on the window that your child is on so they can visually see like, okay, it's been 30 minutes, you can take one off. So then when they get down to like the last two 30 minutes, they know they're pretty close the last 30 minutes. Then they can be like, oh, we're almost there. Instead of asking you every 30 minutes, every 10 minutes, are we there yet? Now they kind of get a visual. And I thought that's really cool. I'm a visual learner and it gives you something to look forward to as a whole car. You can be like, oh, we're getting close to the next like sticky note coming off.
[00:09:01] Speaker C: It's like a little game.
[00:09:02] Speaker D: Right?
[00:09:03] Speaker C: So kids like that.
[00:09:03] Speaker D: Exactly. I think it's a great idea.
[00:09:05] Speaker A: I'm going to start you some great music. The Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:09:09] Speaker C: If you go to myjourney fm.com you can check the hometown events page and see what's coming up for, I guess the rest of the summer and then into the fall.
[00:09:19] Speaker D: Yeah, there are a lot of concerts that need to be on your radar for the fall and even into the winter, like coming November. We have to tons of artists that are touring. So if you want to go ahead and mark your calendar and get tickets, you can do that. We'll have some giveaways coming up as the months go on as well. And then if you have an event you want to get the word out about, you can also submit your event there. So myjourney fm.com check out our hometown events. It's a great way to get involved in the community.
[00:09:42] Speaker A: Your day starts with encouragement. The Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:09:46] Speaker C: God's love is unearned. It's undeserved and it's unlike Journey. Artist Megan woods writes about that in her post on the Journey Hope blog.
[00:09:56] Speaker D: If you are in need of hope today, the Journey Hope blog is a great place to get it. You can just go to myjourney fm.com it's all about helping others personally experience Christ. There's a video there about how to take that next step into relationship with Jesus as well. And then if you click on encouraging words, you'll see the Hope Blog by several Journey artists this month for August.
It's the Truth by Megan woods and it's a little devotional from her, so make sure you check that out, if you haven't already. The Hope

[00:10:24] Speaker A: On the morning Journey Rewind podcast with Mark and Brittany.
[00:10:28] Speaker D: Well, Mark, did you ever go to summer camp growing up?

[00:11:30] Speaker C: I always liked. We broke ours. They did two teams.
[00:11:33] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:11:34] Speaker C: You know, you had. I think we did, like, Stars and Stripes.
[00:11:36] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:11:36] Speaker C: I remember at the camp. And so all week long, you had this ongoing competition.
[00:11:40] Speaker D: Right.
[00:11:40] Speaker C: So that was fun.
[00:11:41] Speaker D: We did stuff like that, too. I think this is a great idea now. It does. It's a little pricey. It's around $800 for a weekend.
But again, all your activities are planned. You have a place to stay. You have your meals. I like the competitive aspect of it. It just. I don't know. There's something about going to a good summer camp. I think we need to bring this back.
[00:11:59] Speaker A: It's the morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:12:02] Speaker D: Who knew that, like, a circus activity or something that you see in the circus or at fairs could actually be good for your cognitive health. I think I need to develop this new skill now. I've never been able to do this, but maybe if I practice, I'll be good at it. Can you juggle?
[00:12:17] Speaker C: I used to be able to juggle three things.
[00:12:19] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:12:19] Speaker C: Okay. I don't know that I could do it now.
[00:12:22] Speaker D: Oh, look at you. You came with props. Are you ready?
[00:12:25] Speaker C: Okay, we'll try. It's probably not going to work.
[00:12:27] Speaker D: All right.
[00:12:27] Speaker C: I've really forgot how to do it.
[00:12:29] Speaker D: Oh, okay. Maybe not.
Apparently, though, people who juggle, it's good for your cognitive health, so it changes how quickly you react to objects, which right now, not so much how well you coordinate between two hands and how you keep your posture under control. It also improves hand eye coordination, so it's good for your cognitive health and for precision movement.
[00:12:52] Speaker C: This is not working.
[00:12:53] Speaker D: It's getting violent in here.
Yes. No. So now I think we both need to take classes on juggling because we'll be better coordinated with hand eye movements. Now, all the sports I played growing up, none of them like, I played soccer and then I rode boats. So no hand eye coordination whatsoever.
[00:13:09] Speaker A: Thanks for catching up on the morning Journey Rewind podcast with Mark and Brittany.
