[00:00:00] Speaker A: This is the Morning Journey. Rewind with Mark and Brittany. Never miss a moment.
[00:00:04] Speaker B: This week on the Morning Journey podcast, Mark and Brittany find out that they won Lynchburg Living's Best Radio DJs. Brittany does a corn maze reading. Rainbow is coming back. And Legos has created an MRI set to help people overcome their anxiety about getting an mri. And do you like yogurt?
[00:00:23] Speaker C: You're on the Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany. Hello.
[00:00:26] Speaker D: Good morning.
[00:00:27] Speaker E: Good morning. How are you guys doing this morning?
[00:00:29] Speaker C: I'm good. How are you?
[00:00:30] Speaker E: I'm good. This is Cindy Bryant with Lynchburg Living magazine.
[00:00:34] Speaker C: Oh, okay.
Why might you be calling us this morning?
[00:00:39] Speaker E: So, yeah, I just wanted to give you guys a call and tell you that you did really well in the contest this year.
You know, I know you work really hard and you strive to be the best, you know, and in our contest, the best is gold, right?
[00:00:51] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:00:52] Speaker E: So you're the best.
[00:00:54] Speaker D: Yay.
All right.
[00:00:59] Speaker E: You guys are the best. You seriously are. You rock. And the community loves you. And this is a community voted contest. So every year that is just confirmed by your win for gold. So congratulations, guys.
[00:01:13] Speaker C: Thank you.
[00:01:14] Speaker D: Thank you so much, Cindy. Well, we're excited. Yes.
[00:01:17] Speaker E: You're so welcome. That'll start your week off right.
[00:01:19] Speaker A: Your day starts with encouragement. The Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:01:24] Speaker D: Your family did a. A very fall like thing over the weekend. You went to a corn maze and you made it out.
[00:01:29] Speaker C: We did, yeah. We were actually really proud of ourself. We let Stella lead the way.
[00:01:32] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:01:33] Speaker C: And surprisingly, she's got a really good sense of direction. No dead ends, no U turns. Didn't get lost at all. Did the whole maze in about 20 minutes.
[00:01:40] Speaker D: Is that right?
[00:01:41] Speaker C: Which is impressive.
[00:01:42] Speaker D: That's great.
[00:01:42] Speaker C: The sign on the Front said like 45 minutes to an hour.
Pretty good about it.
[00:01:46] Speaker D: She said, follow me.
[00:01:47] Speaker C: She did. And she led the way.
[00:01:50] Speaker A: Good company makes for a great day. The morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:01:55] Speaker D: For an entire generation, they grew up with Levar Burton encouraging them to read on the TV show Reading Rainbow. I didn't realize that he hosted that show for 26 years.
[00:02:05] Speaker C: Wow. That's a really long time. I just. I love this, like, butterfly in the sky.
I can go 26 years. Like, when you heard that, you knew it was gonna be a good day. Take a look. It's in a book. A reading rainbow.
So good. It was such a good show and it really did inspir so many kids to read. And so now it's coming back with a new host. But I'M excited to see it coming back and inspire a whole new generation to start reading again.
[00:02:30] Speaker D: Yeah. Because you were part of that generation that you grew up with that show.
[00:02:34] Speaker C: Yes. Loved the show. I mean, the theme song was really the best part, let's be honest. But. And you're a big reader and I'm a big reader now, so I think there's something to be said about even TV shows that teach us about reading. And so I'm glad to see it coming back.
[00:02:46] Speaker F: I just kind of channel surfing through the radio. Families are catching on and I'm like, wow, this is pretty cool.
[00:02:52] Speaker A: To the best way.
[00:02:52] Speaker F: So now this is the only thing I listen to now to wake up. My style of everything has started and changed.
[00:02:57] Speaker A: It's the Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:03:00] Speaker D: When I first saw this, I wasn't really sure how I felt about it, but then I kind of looked at it a little bit more and saw what Legos is doing. They have created an MRI scanner set and it's designed to reduce anxiety in children that are undergoing the medical treatment.
[00:03:17] Speaker C: I feel like this would also work for adults. We have a friend who's even talked about her husband not liking getting in the machine. It's like a big tube and you kind of have to, like, really not move. And it can be very claustrophobic. And so I think anytime we can take something that seems scary and make it seem less scary, it's a good thing. Yeah.
[00:03:34] Speaker D: That is the comment, by the way, that a lot of adults are chiming in on. They say this is a great idea because so many adults have the same anxiety, the same fear of getting in that tube that children have.
[00:03:47] Speaker C: Yeah. It's nice to see Legos doing something like this and making everyday practices that sometimes we unfortunately have to go through a little less scary.
[00:03:57] Speaker D: Somebody did ask if it had LEGO insurance with a $2,000 copay.
[00:04:02] Speaker C: No. But the set itself is probably a couple hundred dollars.
[00:04:05] Speaker A: Your day starts with encouragement. The Morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:04:10] Speaker D: When Maria passed away last year, she was 117 years old and 168 days. She was the oldest known person in the world.
[00:04:22] Speaker C: Whoa.
[00:04:22] Speaker D: Yeah. Before she passed away, she asked her doctors to study her to find out why she lived as long as she did. One of the things they found out she ate three yogurts a day. And they believed that played a huge role in her longevity.
[00:04:39] Speaker C: Yogurt, huh?
[00:04:40] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:04:40] Speaker C: Who knew?
I never thought yogurt of being like a superfood that would help you live longer.
[00:04:45] Speaker D: No, I didn't either.
[00:04:46] Speaker C: I mean, that's kind of weird.
[00:04:47] Speaker D: I like it, but. Yeah.
117 years old.
[00:04:51] Speaker C: 117. Now we know. I guess we need to get some yogurt. I actually bought some at the grocery store the other day, so maybe we'll both live to be that old.
[00:05:00] Speaker D: So earlier we were talking about Maria. Maria lived to be 117 years old. She passed away last year. She is the oldest. Was the oldest living person known at the time. But before she passed, she had asked her doctors to study her to help determine why she lived so long. Now, she had a pretty healthy diet. She did not drink alcohol. She didn't smoke. Her diet included fish. She used olive oil. But this is what caught people's attention. She ate three yogurts per day.
[00:05:30] Speaker C: Three yogurts, yeah.
[00:05:31] Speaker D: So her.
[00:05:32] Speaker C: That's a lot, I think.
[00:05:33] Speaker D: Yeah.
Her yogurt did not have sugar added to it. So I got to thinking about that. I think yogurt is one of those foods where you either like it or you don't. I don't hear people say, it's okay.
[00:05:46] Speaker C: Do you like it?
[00:05:47] Speaker D: I do. Now. I did not used to like it, really, but I had never tried it. I couldn't get past the name yogurt. Like, that just doesn't sound.
[00:05:55] Speaker C: Doesn't sound appetizing.
[00:05:56] Speaker D: No, it doesn't sound appetizing at all.
[00:05:58] Speaker C: I've always liked yogurt. I think it's interesting because my daughter likes yogurt. She's three. But the hard part is if you, like, one time she tried just the plain Greek yogurt. If you do that, it is very sour. So if it's not like, even, like, plain vanilla is fine or just, like, regular, like, yogurt. But if you get the Greek yogurt that's plain, it is very. Like, it could be sour. And so I feel like if that's somebody's first attempt at yogurt. Yeah, maybe you wouldn't like it.
[00:06:25] Speaker D: Yeah. I think some people, too, have, like, probably, like, an issue with, like, the texture of it. Some people don't like that.
[00:06:30] Speaker C: I like the texture of yogurt and, like, pudding, but, like, I don't do, like, the cottage cheese. So as long as it's not lumpy, I'm okay.
[00:06:37] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:06:37] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:06:38] Speaker D: No, I can't. I've got family members that love cottage cheese and eat it, and I. I can't. Well, I can't watch them eat it. That's how. But. But that's how. What I used to think about yogurt I knew it wasn't lumpy, but I used to think of it texture.
But then when I tried it, now I eat it, you know, fairly regularly. Now mine does have the, I buy the, the kind that has probably the sugar added to it so.
[00:07:02] Speaker C: Well, the thing I love about yogurt is you can add anything to it. Like if you buy it plain, you can add like fruits or granola or chocolate chips. Like, you can really kind of do whatever you want with yogurt. It's like a blank canvas. So I think we're team yogurt. Maybe we'll live to be really long. Like, like her.
[00:07:16] Speaker D: We'll still be doing the. We'll be doing the morning show when we're.
[00:07:19] Speaker C: We'll be eating our yogurt on the morning show.
[00:07:23] Speaker A: Start on a positive note. You're on the Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:07:28] Speaker D: Local churches in more than 100 nations hand out Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts at festive outreach events where the gospel is presented in a child friendly way. You can be a part of this when you pick up a box here at the Journey and this is a great way to impact a child's life.
[00:07:45] Speaker C: Yeah, you can pick up a box, you can decide if you want to do a boy or a girl, what age you want and then you can fill those boxes. If you have kids. This is a great way to get the kids involved in giving back as well. And it's just so much fun. We do it every year and we've put a lot of boxes together so you don't have to do that. But yeah, you can come by the studios. We're right next to Ollie's and Candler station. If you're not in the area, you can go to myjourneyfm.com check out the details there because there's pickup and drop off locations where you are.
[00:08:13] Speaker F: I just kind of channel surfing through the radio. Families are catching on and I'm like, wow, this is pretty cool.
[00:08:18] Speaker A: To the best way.
[00:08:19] Speaker F: So now this is the only thing I listen to now to wake up. My style of everything has started and changed.
[00:08:24] Speaker A: It's the Morning Journey with Mark Brittany.
[00:08:26] Speaker D: Great way for you to connect with the Journey and get involved is to help us pick the songs we play. You can do that when you sign up today. You can do it like right now. Get signed up for the Journey music crew.

[00:08:57] Speaker A: Alarm to the workplace, helping you start your day.
[00:09:00] Speaker D: I'm on my way to work.
[00:09:01] Speaker A: It's the Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:09:04] Speaker D: As we get closer to the holiday season, the journey is focused on the next generation of children and doing what we can to help share the gospel of Christ with them. One way you can get involved is to join us November 21st through the 23rd for the compassion Experience. This will be at Parkway Church on the mountain in Roanoke.
[00:09:22] Speaker C: Yeah, we would love to see you on that Friday the 21st. We'll have our table out. Some music, some goodies. But this is such a cool opportunity because it's a mobile, immersive journey through a child's story of overcoming poverty. They've taken a semi truck and actually converted it into the lives of Kiwi in the Philippines and Jonathan in the Dominican Republic. So you get to walk through, hear each story. It takes about 15 minutes to complete, and it's just a great reminder of all the wonderful work that Compassion does all over the world for kids in need.
[00:09:51] Speaker A: Uplifting and encouraging because you need it now more than ever.
[00:09:55] Speaker D: You betcha.
[00:09:56] Speaker A: The morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:09:58] Speaker D: It is amazing what young people today are doing. Over the weekend, there was a group of students that competed in that rocket competition in the Roanoke area, and they had to design, build, and then launch their own rocket. Now an eighth grader, an eighth grader has been named America's top young scientist for the year. Kevin is a student out of California, and he came up with a solution to an everyday problem.
[00:10:22] Speaker C: I love this.
It's called Fall Guard and it's all about detecting falls and it can accurately send emergency responses to older adults at home, even if they're in the dark. It also, and this is really cool, can even detect irregular walking movements, which could be a symptom of a stroke.
So that's pretty awesome. I know my grandma had a stroke and she's very stubborn and did not go to the doctor and went to church and. And was like walking into the wall. And the people at church were like, rosa, I think you've had a stroke. You need to go the urgent care. And so I can imagine something like this helping people in those moments to know like, hey, this isn't normal. I need to go get help.
[00:11:01] Speaker D: Yeah. And there's some of those products already, these detection products already on the market, but his builds on those. It includes like a smartphone app and then it has the ability to capture the imagery of the person even at night. So the EMTs can be notified and family members can be notified as well.
[00:11:22] Speaker C: Yeah. Pretty cool. Congratulations to Kevin. He got $25,000 and a unique destination trip as well, in addition to, you know, adding to the scientific community. So good job, Kevin.
[00:11:35] Speaker A: You're on the morning Journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:11:37] Speaker D: Our worship pastors craft those moments in services, whether it's music or prayer, to help us focus our minds and our hearts on God's. And you know, when you think about it, really, the worship pastor is often the first voice you hear from the platform on Sunday mornings. And what they say and the music they select sets the tone for the entire service.
[00:11:56] Speaker C: Yeah. And so we have a great opportunity right now. It is Pastor Appreciation month. And so if you would like to nominate your worship pastor, we have a cool gift to give them. We have a guitar that we've been getting signed by Journey artists throughout the whole year. And so we are now giving that away this month. All you have to do is go to myjourney fm.com click on the link, fill out the form, and your pastor just might win.
[00:12:18] Speaker A: Start on a positive note. You're on the morning journey with Mark and Brittany.
[00:12:23] Speaker D: We had Kelly Diaz of CASA of Central Virginia in with us. CASA stands for court appointed Special Advocate. They do great work with children. These are children that are facing abuse. And she was here to talk about how you can be involved as a volunteer.
[00:12:38] Speaker C: Yeah. And if you're ever wondering what kind of impact you have as a volunteer, this is the kind of impact that you're having.
[00:12:43] Speaker E: CASA really changed my child's life. I wouldn't have my nine year old in a safe and loving home if it weren't for our CASA volunteer.
[00:12:51] Speaker C: And that is just one of the many stories that the CASA organization gets to hear from families when their volunteers step up and do something for them. And so right now we have an opportunity on our
[email protected] for you to win a four pack of tickets to their upcoming superhero run.
[00:13:07] Speaker D: Yeah, this is a big fundraiser for them that's coming up November 1st. You've got to get your superhero costume.
[00:13:13] Speaker C: Yes. Star wars theme this year.
[00:13:15] Speaker D: Yeah, that's right. So you can wear a Star Wars T shirt or you can go full on costume and you can participate in the superhero run great community event.
[00:13:25] Speaker A: Thanks for Catching up on the morning Journey Rewind podcast with Mark and Brittany.
