[00:00:00] Speaker A: This is the Morning Journey Rewind with Mark and Brittany. Never miss a moment. [00:00:04] Speaker B: This week on the Morning Journey podcast, Mark and Brittany discuss how long leftovers are good for. Do you know someone that would be late for their own funeral? And Frankie Muniz from Malcolm in the Middle found Jesus on a cross country road trip. Also, Brittany's daughter Stella has a parade. [00:00:19] Speaker C: There's this new. I don't know if it's new or not, but it's becoming popular. It's called the two, two, two rule. [00:00:25] Speaker D: Yeah. So it was like two hours out is fine. And then you can put it in the fridge for two days and then, and then you can freeze it for like two months. Like leftovers. Now I am really bad about leftovers. My husband is constantly calling me out because if it doesn't smell bad and it doesn't have mold on it, I will probably eat it, I feel like. Especially if it's something microwavable because the microwave will zap anymore. [00:00:47] Speaker C: So even if it's like four or five days later. [00:00:49] Speaker D: Yeah, I'll go like a full week. If I can't tell you that it's been less than a week, a week or less, then I probably won't. But I. I'll go a full week sometimes. [00:00:59] Speaker C: Wow. [00:00:59] Speaker D: I mean, I'm really bad about it. [00:01:01] Speaker C: I'll do the four day. I've done that before. I did that. I just had like chili for lunch yesterday. That was leftover chili. And that was probably. It was in the refrigerator probably three days. So we ate it on the fourth day. It was fine. [00:01:14] Speaker D: Well, I have shredded chicken in the refrigerator now. That was like two months ago. I mean, it's probably a week and a half ago at this point. I mean, I think it's fine. I don't know. I'm probably gonna eat it. I'll probably be okay. Now, Susan in our office, she doesn't eat leftovers at all. [00:01:27] Speaker C: No, we just asked her. She said no, she doesn't. Her husband, on the other hand, is more like you. If it doesn't have mold on it, it's going to be eaten. [00:01:37] Speaker D: Knock on wood. I've only gotten food poisoning like once in my life and it wasn't from leftovers. [00:01:41] Speaker A: So your day starts with encouragement. The morning journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:01:47] Speaker C: You may know somebody that is just late for everything. They are never on time and somebody will usually say that person will be late for their own funeral. [00:01:58] Speaker D: Yep. [00:01:59] Speaker C: That is exactly what happened to one woman. [00:02:02] Speaker D: Yeah, it's pretty funny. A lady passed away and her Daughter and her, like the people who were mourning went to the graveside and the hearse shows up and they accidentally locked the keys inside the hearse so they couldn't get the casket out to lower it into the ground. And she called the local cops and told them it's not an emergency, but you know, the locksmith would have taken two hours. So the local cops showed up and they jimmied the door, but it only took about an extra 10 minutes. But yeah, I mean, it's just proof that even in death, you know, life still happens and things go wrong. And luckily they all saw the humor in the moment. [00:02:38] Speaker C: Yeah, the daughter actually shared it on social media. She had the picture of the police trying to jimmy open the door and then she thanked the local police for being able to show up and get there as quick as they did. So overall, I mean, she, she had a good attitude about it, but she was late for her own funeral. [00:02:56] Speaker D: Look, her mom just wasn't ready to go into the ground just yet. [00:03:00] Speaker E: I just kind of channel surfing through the radio. [00:03:02] Speaker A: Families are catching on and I'm like. [00:03:04] Speaker E: Wow, this is pretty cool. [00:03:05] Speaker A: To the best way. [00:03:06] Speaker E: So now this is the only thing I listen to now to wake up. My style of everything has started to change. [00:03:10] Speaker A: It's the morning journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:03:13] Speaker C: You remember Frankie Muniz? You might remember. [00:03:16] Speaker D: I do, yeah. [00:03:17] Speaker C: That's from Malcolm in the Middle. He's now a race car driver. [00:03:20] Speaker D: What? [00:03:21] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:03:21] Speaker D: No way. [00:03:22] Speaker C: Yeah. He's been sharing though recently about his faith and how his life has drastically changed because of God. What's interesting about this is God used a cross country road trip and Christian radio as part of his life change. [00:03:38] Speaker D: Yeah. He was just scanning the dial. He came across the big Daddy Weave song overwhelmed. And he said it just hit him in the moment and he just kept listening. And he is a big fan of Brandon Lake and Phil Wickham. And he said he's a high stress person, but the more he started listening to Christian radio, the more he felt calm and at peace. [00:03:56] Speaker C: Yeah, we say this all the time. We talk about as a staff, we say, you know, you never know who may be listening and how God is going to use a radio station to impact someone's life. And so there is a perfect example of somebody that says, I'm a high stress person. But it was on a road trip that they came across a Christian radio station and he's been listening ever since. [00:04:20] Speaker D: I feel like a lot of times we think about celebrities and we think that they're like above Us, and they do different things than we do, but they're really just normal people. Like, he's just on a road trip, scanning the dial, trying to find something that comes in. And God uses that moment to connect him to Christian music and Christian radio and change his entire life. And he says, you know what? I hope other people find that too. And so thank you for listening and being with us this morning. And yeah, Frankie Muniz. Look at that. [00:04:47] Speaker A: Your day starts with encouragement. The morning journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:04:51] Speaker C: Brittany's daughter, Stella, she has a big day today. She's going to be in a parade. [00:04:56] Speaker D: Yeah. This is so cute. So they're doing like a community helpers parade. So they had career day a little like back in the middle of the month. And I got to go and talk at the school. And then today they get to dress up as what they want to be when they grow up. And she decided that she wants to be an astronaut. [00:05:12] Speaker C: Nice. [00:05:13] Speaker D: I mean, I'm excited. But after doing that story about the people who are doing the Mars simulation and like in the Johnson Space center, who are gonna be like, locked in that for like a year, I'm kind of sad. I'm like, if she becomes an astronaut, like, she'll be gone, like in space. [00:05:26] Speaker C: She might be the first for a long time person to go to Mars. [00:05:29] Speaker D: She might be. So, yeah, so she gets to dress up as an astronaut and then they're gonna like parade the kids for everyone. [00:05:36] Speaker C: Okay. [00:05:37] Speaker D: And then there's like a little like, like snack time afterwards. And I get to be a part of that too. [00:05:41] Speaker C: So now does she. Did you find an astronaut costume? [00:05:44] Speaker D: I had to order one. And it's interesting because we have to like, dress them in their costume for, like, to take them to school. So Phil's got to dress her this morning in this astronaut outfit and then. [00:05:53] Speaker C: Any costume, like with the helmet and everything. [00:05:56] Speaker D: Yes. And so any accessories like the helmet and the gloves and stuff you're supposed to like put in their bag, and then the teachers will help them put that on. So she doesn't have to wear the helmet all day, but she will hopefully wear it in the parade. [00:06:06] Speaker C: She'll want to wear that. She'll want to wear it all day, probably. [00:06:08] Speaker D: Yeah. But I'm excited. I get to go. I get to see her in the, the parade and have a little snack time afterwards. So we'll see when she's 18, I'll remind her of this moment. Be like, remember when you wanted to be an astronaut? [00:06:19] Speaker C: So the other day, Brittany was Talking about she was going to go home and help Stella get into her costume because they were having a parade. This was a parade where the they were showing what they want to be, what they grow up. [00:06:31] Speaker D: Yeah, it was a community helpers parade at her school. And so she told me she wanted to be an astronaut. And so I got her a little astronaut outfit. And then I got to go to the school yesterday and like see the parade and hang out in the classroom for their little fall party afterwards. And so all that was great. But while I was in the classroom, I was able to like, look at the artwork that they've been doing. And one of the artworks is what do you want to be when you grow up? And I was like, oh, cute. So I walk over, I find Stella's expecting to see astronaut, and what do I see? Chef. She told them that she wanted to be a chef because she wants to cook a lot of vegetables, which is good because she likes vegetables. But I was like, I dressed you as an astronaut today. And then you told your teachers you wanted to be a chef. [00:07:11] Speaker C: I'm a chef. [00:07:12] Speaker D: So now I'm confused which it is. Maybe she'll be a chef on the International Space Station today. [00:07:16] Speaker C: She may open up the very first restaurant in space. How about that? [00:07:20] Speaker D: That would be super cool. Maybe she'll get to do both. [00:07:23] Speaker C: Stella's. [00:07:24] Speaker D: Yeah. Intergalactic restaurant. I love it. [00:07:28] Speaker A: Start on a positive note. You're on the morning journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:07:34] Speaker C: When you get involved with Operation Christmas Child, you are partnering with local churches in more than 100 nations. And these churches hand out the OCC boxes at festive outreach events in villages around the world. So you're giving away more than just a box of gifts at Christmas time. You're actually presenting the gospel of Christ, sharing the love of Christ with a child. [00:07:57] Speaker D: And if you'd like to get involved, you can do that through the journey. We are a pickup location on Candlers Mountain, right next to Ollie's. If you're not in the Lynchburg area, you can go to mount myjourneyfm.com you can click on the link and find a pickup or drop off location near you. Collection week starts on November 17th. I actually have my mom's box with me this morning and once again, she overfilled it. So I always use her extra to start my box. [00:08:18] Speaker C: Two boxes. [00:08:18] Speaker D: So it always works out pretty well. But if you want to get involved, you still have time to do so. All the details, what to put in [email protected] I just kind of channel surfing through the radio. [00:08:28] Speaker A: Families are catching on and I'm like. [00:08:30] Speaker E: Wow, this is pretty cool to the best way. But now this is the only thing I listen to now to wake up. My style of everything has started and changed. It's always a great time and we were giving you an opportunity to win tickets to enter the run. [00:10:23] Speaker D: Yeah, it's Star wars theme this year, one of their biggest fundraisers. They're also in need of volunteers. We had Kelly come on last week and talk about what CASA does court appointed special advocates for children. And so if you can volunteer, they'd so appreciate that. But Kristin is our winner. She's winning those tickets so she does not have to pay to run. You can also. I like this. There's a couch option as well. So if you want to support them but you don't necessarily want to run, you can sign up to be a couch supporter and all the details and everything. [00:11:00] Speaker C: Being able to actually see what life is like for a child living in poverty can make such a huge impact on your life. And that's what the Compassion experience is. It is coming to Roanoke this fall. This is an interactive walkthrough and that'll be November 21st through the 23rd at Parkway Church on the Mountain. [00:11:19] Speaker D: Yeah, we hope to see you there. We'll be there on Friday the 21st. It's a great opportunity for you to walk through a converted semi truck. They're recreating the lives of Kiwi in the Philippines and Jonathan in the Dominican Republic. The first 50 to register will receive a free hoodie and you can get signed up through our website, myjourneyfm.com start. [00:11:37] Speaker A: On a positive note. You're on the morning journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:11:43] Speaker C: Ken runs multiple laundromats and he posts his WI fi password publicly at each location. That seems a little risky, but it was all worth it when a mom approached him with tears in her eyes and said, thank you for doing that because it saved her daughter's future. [00:11:58] Speaker D: There's so many places that don't have Internet or people who just can't afford to have Internet. And a lot of times, especially nowadays with school, you basically have to have Internet to get your schoolwork done. And so Ken understood that and he posted that. And not only did he give out his wifi passport for free, but he then created a space for kids to go and learn. Now they went to the library during the day. So they were aware that the library offered free Internet and they went there. But when the library closed, if they still had homework done, they had nowhere to do their homework. So he set up tables and a safe space and a calm and comfortable environment right there in his laundromat for these kids to come and finish their homework. And I think that's really just being in tune with what your community needs and kind of stepping in and meeting that need along with doing what actually, like his actual business of being a laundry man. [00:12:45] Speaker C: Exactly. No, and you make a great point on that, because it was one person that made a difference in lives and people. He didn't know them. [00:12:52] Speaker D: Right. [00:12:52] Speaker C: You know, and. But look at the impact that he has had on them. [00:12:56] Speaker D: And such a simple thing to do. Just putting the WI fi out there and creating this space. And now the kids, instead of, you know, not doing their homework or doing any other thing after school, they're in his Laundromat, they're safe, and they're doing their homework. I love that. Good job, kid. [00:13:10] Speaker A: Thanks for catching up on the morning Journey Rewind podcast with Mark and Brittany.
