[00:00:01] Speaker A: This is the Morning Journey Rewind with Mark and Brittany. [00:00:04] Speaker B: This week on the Morning Journey podcast, Mark and Brittany vote for their favorite bears for Fat Bear Week. Brittany's daughter Stella gets time out. And did you know hearing your mom's voice is like a hug. Also, make sure you sign up your office for Tuesday tasty treats. [00:00:19] Speaker C: Well, it is the tournament that everybody looks forward to. Last year, over 1 million votes were cast in this tournament. Fat Bear week is back. [00:00:28] Speaker B: We're so excited. We love Fat Bear Week. This is where bears get their bulk of their weight before they go to hibernate for the winter. And so voting begins on the east coast at noon today. You can vote for your favorite fat bear. And grazer, who weighs over 1200 pounds, has won the last two years. So will she uphold her title this year? Not sure. But I love voting for Fat Bear Week. It's so much fun. So noon today, voting begins. Exploring hosts Fat Bear Week every year. And these are some of the biggest brown bears in the world in Alaska. [00:01:01] Speaker C: Yeah, the bracket is already out. [00:01:03] Speaker B: So go take a look today, get your vote on and we'll see who wins fat bear week 2025. [00:01:10] Speaker A: Helping to get your day started, the morning journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:01:14] Speaker C: Brittany's daughter Stella has started school. Things were going well until. [00:01:20] Speaker B: Yeah, so last week we had been on vacation. We came back last Monday. Her teacher met me when I went to pick her up and said, estella had a rough day today. And she wasn't listening and she wasn't sharing and she was blowing raspberries even after I told her to stop. And so we came home and we put her in timeout. And they say to like, however, like many years old the kid is, is how many minutes they should sit in time out. Okay, so three minutes is what I. And that seemed to work. It seemed to help. [00:01:52] Speaker C: And then she understood. [00:01:54] Speaker B: I thought. I thought so. And then the next day, she looks at Phil and she goes, can you put me in timeout? Like, mommy, I'm like, what? You're not supposed to like timeout. That's not how this works. So maybe she doesn't completely understand just yet. [00:02:12] Speaker C: I love it. Brittany, you were telling us about your daughter. Stella didn't quite get the concept of timeout. [00:02:20] Speaker B: No. She got in trouble at school, so we tried to put her in timeout and explain it to her. And then she liked timeout. And. And so we've had to resort to a different chair facing a different wall and try and make it a little less exciting. But then so that was Monday last week. Then on Wednesday, she comes home with an award for being kind. She rebounded. I guess it really was just the day and being, you know, kind of off schedule from being on vacation and stuff. And then by Wednesday, she was like the model citizen. So there you go. Now we got the award in her room and we remind her every day, like, remember this award, you need to be kind. And so far, so good. [00:02:55] Speaker A: You guys always make me smile. The morning journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:03:00] Speaker C: So my mom continues a tradition in our family that when somebody has a birthday, she will call them and sing happy birthday. [00:03:07] Speaker B: Aw. [00:03:08] Speaker C: She started doing this years ago, and even though we're now all adults, me, my sister, my brother in law, even my nieces, she will still do it. And it's always fun. Kind of brightens everyone's day just to hear her voice. [00:03:22] Speaker B: Yeah. Something about hearing your mom's voice really does actually scientifically make you feel like you're getting a hug. It's almost as good as a hug. It provides stress relief, it increases the love hormone, apparently, oxytocin, and it creates a calming social bonding effect similar to a hug, which I did not realize. And it also makes you feel supported and reassured and it even takes down the levels of crystal or however you say it, the primary stress hormone that we all get when we're stressed out. So hearing your mom's voice actually can like calm you down and reassure you and almost feel like you're getting a hug. Now, it doesn't work if it's just a text message. It has to be an actual, like the voice, the voice, like the phone call. And so for those of us who are lucky enough to still have our moms around, let us not take that for granted. That, you know, just talking to them can calm us down and make us feel reassured. [00:04:14] Speaker C: The vocal hug. [00:04:16] Speaker A: Mark, Brittany, and you, you're on the morning journey. [00:04:20] Speaker C: Well, next Tuesday is the big kickoff. We start our Tuesday tasty treats for a winning business. We will be delivering the delicious treats to a business in the area. Well, not every Tuesday. Once a month on Tuesday. And so our first one will be next Tuesday the 30th. So you still have a little while to sign up and you can do [email protected] A great day begins with a positive morning. [00:04:55] Speaker A: You're on the morning journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:04:57] Speaker C: I feel like I should be saying call now 800 from Partner Week last week, by the way. And just a huge thank you to everybody who called in, went online, used the app and donated, supported the journey. We appreciate that so much. We finished Friday Evening a little over 95 of the goal reached, which means we still have about $8,300 remaining. But again, thank you so much for the donations and all of the stories that are so encouraging. [00:05:29] Speaker B: We're always, like, in awe of just what God's doing through the radio station in your life. So thank you for sharing that with us. Being vulnerable and transparent because you never know whose story is your story and who needs to hear that. So thank you for sharing your stories. Like Mark said, we're about $8,300 short, so if you still want to give, you can still get involved@myjourney fm.com the Red Donate Heart is always there. So feel free to give if you maybe forgot or just, you know, didn't get the chance. During partner invitation. [00:05:57] Speaker A: Some great music. The morning journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:06:01] Speaker C: So the gym that I was going to at one point, I haven't been there in a while. My niece Emily also was going at the same time. And one time she said, hey, Mark, have you seen the guy that works out in his dress, office clothes? And I said, what? He said, no, he wears, like, a pair of khaki slacks or dress slacks. He's got his pinpoint oxford shirt untucked. He's got his loafers on. Like, he just came from an office and he's working out. Sure enough, a couple times later when I was there, he was in there. He was on an exercise bike working out. And I'm thinking, okay, you're gonna ruin those clothes. Even if you wash them, they're going to get the whole sweat smell in your clothes. [00:06:42] Speaker B: Why would you work out in, like, actual, like, I had no idea. So weird. Well, last week during partner, when we came back from one of our extra shifts, I realized that I forgot deodorant. [00:06:53] Speaker C: And I was like, we wondered about that. [00:06:56] Speaker B: I kept smelling myself. I was like, do I smell? And then I got to thinking. I was like, I wonder if you smell worse when you forget deodorant. Like, is it just because you realize that you forgot it? Like, you just probably thinking it smell worse? I think you do, because I think then you start to sweat because you're, like, nervous about the fact that you forgot deodorant. [00:07:14] Speaker C: I think most of us probably do. [00:07:15] Speaker B: There may be the which probably makes you smell worse. [00:07:20] Speaker C: The stress of not having. [00:07:21] Speaker B: The stress of not having deodorant makes you smell worse than if you just didn't realize you forgot deodorant. [00:07:27] Speaker A: Your day starts with encouragement. The Morning journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:07:31] Speaker C: Well, the Charlie Kirk memorial service was held yesterday in Arizona. 90,000 people were in attendance there in the stadium in the overflow area and had an opportunity to watch it. The gospel of Christ was shared over and over. I don't think I've ever seen that on television where you had that kind of service. It literally was a worship service. Chris Tomlin, Brandon Lake, Phil Wickham, Carrie Jobe were there. They led worship. But the moment that everybody is talking about this morning is when Charlie Kirk's widow, Erica Kirk, spoke and she forgave the young man that is charged in her husband's death. That's a message and a moment that I don't think people will forget. If you have not seen it, I encourage you to watch at least that part of the memorial service. [00:08:21] Speaker B: Yeah, I can't imagine what she's going through. And to stand up there and boldly just claim forgiveness over that person is what Jesus would do. And honestly, what we all should do. And we have people who have offended us for much, much lesser things. And sometimes we hold onto that and we hold grudges instead of just forgiving them and knowing Charlie is in a better place, and she knows that, and, yeah, just very, very powerful watching her for somebody that took the most important person from her life. So if you haven't seen it, go check it out. [00:08:54] Speaker A: They'll help you wake up. The Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:08:57] Speaker C: This is kind of cool. In the age of digital communication, greeting cards are making a comeback, and it's being driven by millennials and Gen Z. [00:09:08] Speaker B: I really think it's being driven by me, myself, and I. Because I send cards for everything. So it's all you, pretty much. Like, I send cards for, like, you do literally anything. It doesn't even have to be your birthday. It could just be like, hey, haven't heard from you in a while. Just catching up. Like, you're one of pretty bad. [00:09:27] Speaker C: You are one of the few people that I know that actually still does that. [00:09:31] Speaker B: Yeah, I love writing handwritten notes, and in return, I love getting them. Like, my husband has gotten me flowers before. And when we first got married, he would never include a note with the flowers. And I was like, the note is more important to me than the flowers themselves. Like, I love a good handwritten Greeting card. And I love sending them as well. [00:09:46] Speaker C: Yeah, that's what they're saying. They said that people are kind of fatigued by the constant digital communication, and they're seeking more tangible, analog forms of communication. [00:09:57] Speaker B: Yeah. Like, a text message is nice, but to know that somebody went out, bought a card, and then sat down and took time to actually write in it is so much, like, more thoughtful, in my opinion, than sending a text. Like, a text is nice. Like, thanks for thinking about me. But, like, the intent behind the card is what matters. [00:10:15] Speaker C: It's like getting an email or getting a handwritten letter. I will. Not that I get a lot of handwritten letters, but when I do, I tend to read those more and maybe more thoughtfully. [00:10:26] Speaker B: Yeah, it just means a lot more. And so I'm excited to see this coming back. I feel like I've been a hallmark in business. [00:10:33] Speaker C: You may have started this whole new trend. [00:10:35] Speaker B: Maybe I did. People just knew. They're like, that Brittany girl. She writes letters. I should, too. [00:10:41] Speaker A: Thanks for catching up on the morning Journey Rewind podcast with Mark and Brittany. [00:10:46] Speaker C: I'm not sure if Brittany's phone is going to be okay. [00:10:49] Speaker B: I don't know. I looked at it today, and I was like, oh, my goodness. The like. [00:10:53] Speaker C: Is that the screen that is cracked? [00:10:54] Speaker B: The case is cracked. So I took the case off, thinking the case was cracked, and sure enough, the back of my phone is completely cracked. Now I'm grateful that it's the back and not the front, so that's a good thing. [00:11:04] Speaker C: So it's still working? [00:11:05] Speaker B: It's still working just fine. Even the camera's fine. But it goes, like, up into the camera like the crack does. And it's pretty. It's, like, shattered pretty bad. [00:11:12] Speaker C: You don't know how you did that? [00:11:13] Speaker B: I have no idea because the case is always on, so I don't know how it would crack like that through the case. But, yeah, hopefully the case will hold it in place. [00:11:21] Speaker C: I think you got excited. I think you got excited. Wash it. Watching the Washington football game yesterday. [00:11:27] Speaker B: That might have been it. [00:11:29] Speaker A: It's the Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany. [00:11:32] Speaker C: One of the ways that you can connect with the Journey is to get signed up for the Journey music crew. The new music crew comes out tomorrow. [00:11:40] Speaker B: Yep. Gonna go out tomorrow. [00:12:06] Speaker A: On the Morning Journey Rewind podcast with Mark and Brittany. [00:12:09] Speaker C: Maybe you need a little pep talk this morning. A little encouragement. How about checking in with a kindergarten? [00:12:16] Speaker B: I love asking kids for advice because they always tend to know what to say. And so if you call 707-873-7862, you can get some advice from kindergartens. Maybe like this. [00:12:30] Speaker D: If you're feeling mad, frustrated or nervous, press 1. When you're feeling mad, you should take three deep breaths and think of things that make you happy. And I think of happy things will happen in the future, like going to a friend's house or a cousin's house. Bye. You're frustrated. You can always go to your bedroom, punch a pillow or cry on it. If you're nervous, go get your wallet and spend it on ice cream and shoes. [00:12:59] Speaker B: I mean, ice cream and shoes will probably make you feel better. [00:13:02] Speaker C: It'll make your day. [00:13:03] Speaker B: So will punching and crying on your pillow. That. Look at that. Just advice from kindergarteners. You really can't beat it. [00:13:10] Speaker A: Helping to get your day started. The Morning Journey with Mark and Brittany.
